Did your shoe size get smaller ?

Recommended Posts

I am a tall Gal , about 5'8" ... I have always had big feet. When I was younger I would ask my Dad " Why are my feet so big compared to other girls in my class ?"

He used to say: Honey, you can't put Volkswagen tires on a Cadillac !

Well, I am wondering if any of you Veteran Sleevers are wearing a smaller shoe size now that you have lost a good portion of your excess weight or did they stay the size length but just got thinner ???

I am soooo curious if my size 11 feet will turn into a size 9 maybe or maybe not lol

I think it's possible I've always been a size 8 to 8 and a half and as I've put weight on over the years I'm now a 9 and a half to a 10

Unfortunately, yes my feet got smaller. So now I have some shoes I love that just slip right off my feet. I went from wearing an 8 - 8.5 to wearing a 7.5 - 8. Mostly my foot is narrower, but smaller all around too.

Oh No!!! i didn't think about that. I sure hope not. This is how I am rewarding myself for pre-op weight loss. For every 5 pounds I lose pre-op I buy a pair of shoes...I'm 1.2 pounds away from my first pair. My goal is to have 5 new pair by surgery....i will just DIE if they don't fit after surgery.

I am also 5'8" and since losing over 100 pounds my shoes have gone from size 10.5 to size 9. I wasn't expecting this, it took me by surprise when my shoes started slipping off me!

I made some people very happy when I donated some of my more expensive shoes, that's for sure! It has been an expensive exercise, replacing shoes, so I have been very conservative as I don't know whether they will shrink more!

I did go and buy new knee high boots a couple of weeks ago and when I pulled the pair I liked and asked the sales assistant If she had them in a nine she responded "we have them in a nine but I am not sure if we have them in a slim fit, these wide ones will be far too wide for your slim calves". I almost kissed her! Happiest shoe buying moment ever. Especially after years of struggling to get boots that go over my calves!

I'm only 3 weeks post op but even at pre op I went from an 8 wide to a 7.5 regular.

I am sooooo excited... I love you all for giving me good news... I would love to go down a size. 10's are easier to find than 11's

None of my sandals from last summer fit...I can't keep them on my feet! I bought two new pairs about a month ago and I'm sliding out of those too. It's aggravating to me but my sister is sure enjoying all my shoes.. And clothes lol

This will be so interesting for me to see...I was telling my Dad the other day how many people experience their feet shrinking after weight loss and he said "well, it is probably because being overweight causes your arches to fall, and once the weight is gone, the arch returns to its "natural" state"...which was a buzzkill for me since I have had flat feet my entire life...so not sure I will be trading in my size 10s (which I've been since I was about 10 years old) for a smaller size...

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
