The last time I seen my surgeon he was telling me that the sleeve is taking over the RNY because of the malnutrition so I was just wondering if they recommended the sleeve for you ladies or was it your decision. For me Dr.Kruger recommended it because of my asthma issues and with the bypass I couldn't ever take prednisone and Motrin again for it. I was so happy as I didn't like the rerouting of the intestines part.

No for me due to my weight and other issues dr. Streeter really wants to do rny but i have been doing a little research on the sleeve since before it came to Massachusetts as i have an out of state relative who had it done. I was scared to do the rny due to the malabsorption. It's honestly taken me about four years to get this far. My weight keeps going up, i have definitely proven to myself that i cannot do this alone or the traditional way.

Yes, I'm in New Bedford. I knew I wanted the sleeve before I went to the first seminar. When I had my first surgeon's consult (which ended up being mostly with the Nurse Practitioner), I was asked "which surgery were you considering?" I responded that I wanted the sleeve, and the NP told me I would probably be an excellent sleeve candidate. The only surgery I felt that they weren't 100% in favor of for anyone is the lapband; one of the other nurses told me she fully expects to see the band phased out over the next few years.

I was told the same thing by Kruger himself and the RNY # are getting smaller as the sleeves are rising. I'm very happy with my decision I've lost 75 and feel like a totally new person. I had a friend who had Streeter and wanted the lap band and he wouldn't do it so she ended up with the RNY I think he only like to do them stick with your decision girl it is in my opinion the ultimately best way to go :)

You bet! There's no way I'm changing my mind--that's one thing I've felt confident about right from the beginning.

My surgery was in the middle of Frankenstorm 6 am sharp. Don't forget Chapstick I had seen it on my list and wondered why I would need it but your lips get so dry it's a must have I also had my b/f bring me a small table fan it was so hot and that was around Halloween. Gas x strips I snuck in with me was a must for the gas pain and tons of hot packs also helped. The nurses was calling the other floors for me for the hot packs :) they are so awesome there I was there so much I actually miss them Lol

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
