What is/was your pre-op diet? Please share.

It blows my mind reading everyone's posts here on VST and the Sassy Sleevrs group on Facebook, HOW COMPLETELY DIFFERENT everyone's pre-op diet is/was. What is your's? I have heard everything from clear liquids for 2 weeks to liquids for a week and clear for 2 days, to lowcarb, sugar free, with 1 day clear liquids. Could you please tell me what was ordered for you? Thanks!!

Mine was 2 weeks of breakfast and lunch shake (premier protein or other from the list) and dinner no larger than the size of a CD. Last day (today) was breakfast shake and clear liquids the rest of the day.

On day one of my pre-op diet -- 2 Protein shakes a day and 1 hearty soup a day (whatever that means exactly)

no caffeine' date=' no anything bubbly (ever again)

I can have sugar free Jello, popsicles, and pudding during the pre-op diet

I can also have sugar free drinks.

Then, 2 days before surgery -- clear liquids only.

Since today is day 1 of my pre-op diet, I have a bad headache today -- I'll probably go home after work and just go to bed and sleep it off.[/quote']

How was your rest ?? That's the same thing I did !

Mine is a collection of bariatric items that add up to about 900 cal. We buy them from the dr office. Breakfast is oatmeal, dry cereal, owlets, or wierd little pancakes. Lunch is soup or pasta meals. Dinner is a prepared frozen dinner type of dinner. Plus protein supplement snacks.

Mine starts tomorrow! It is 5 protein shakes or bars a day plus 5oz of lean meat and 2 cups of non starchy vegetables and a teeny tiny amount of fat (like 6 almonds worth). The day before surgery I must have a liquid diet for dinner and nothing past 10 p.m.

2 weeks of:

4 Protein shakes per day

Clear liquids

I serving of either skim milk or low fat yogurt.

I start next Wednesday!!

Hi my pre op diet consist of 12 days of 2 protein shakes and 1 high protein meal a day and then 2 days before surgery liquids only

Kaiser Fremont (and most other NorCal Kaiser Bariatric Centers) require patients to lose 10% of their weight pre-op. They provide a suggested diet and list of foods.

Basically, it's:

Breakfast

2 Protein

1 fruit

1 milk

0-1 starch

1 fat

lunch

2-3 protein

2 vegetables

1 fruit

1 starch

1 fat

dinner

3 protein

1 milk

2 vegetables

1 starch

1 fat

With the following info:

Calories: 1200 calories per day

Protein: 70-80 grams per day

Carbohydrate: 130 grams per day

Fat: 30 grams per day

Fluid: at least 64 ounces per day

• Practice principals of mindful eating

• Eat at least 3 meals per day; no snacking or grazing

• Drink at least 64 oz of decaffeinated, non carbonated Fluid per day (8 cups)

• Eat slowly (one bite a minute); chew food completely (30X)

• In each meal, be mindful of your portion size

Clear liquids the day before surgery, post op is 3 weeks liquids. :/

Anyone else experience stomach cramps while on liquid diet? I have been on it for a week now and my stomach constantly hurting after eating and drinking. Protein shakes makes my stomach hurt the most.

I had a 2 week liquid diet w/2 days clear liquids right before surgery. I lived on Protein shakes' date=' G2 gatorade, Water, broth and Jello. yum yum. lol. I had my doctor take a picture of my liver during surgery and give it to me afterwards because i wanted proof of how pretty it was after I survived that diet![/quote']

That is hilarious and ingenious. Lol. I start my preop diet tomorrow...a little proof at the end would be great incentive! :)

I did fairly well for my first day, considering the huge headache I had. Took a benadryl for my allergies, went to bed early, and slept the hunger off.

I was okay this morning when I got up but I have a headache now. Guess I'll pop a couple of Tylenol for the headache.

I can't remember who it was that posted that motivational piece yesterday, but it kept me going. Thanks for that.

Today is my 1st day. Slight headache after the shake at noon. Did a 20 min walk at lunch in 100 degree heat (probably not so smart.). So far so good. Dinner will be a test since I am traveling and will be eating at a restaurant.

Ok everyone, I am going in tomorrow morning. Surgery set for 7:30 am. I am asking that the praying people pray for me. I have a 19 year old guy with autism expecting me to come home! *hugs*

PS~ I did not do Clear liquids for 2 weeks as suggested. I did get off caffeine, drank nothing but filtered Water with organic lemon in it, ate small meals of lean Protein and a green (spinach/broccoli) and yesterday and today Clear liquids plus 1 Protein shake for Breakfast. I also took cayenne pepper, turmeric, Vitamin C and milk thistle to clean the liver. (except today & yesterday, just fluids). I will let you know if it worked! Thanks for praying!
