Still in the pre op phase. 4 months to go in the 6 month supervised diet. However, I am an RN and have taken care of bariatric patients and have several friends who have had WLS. It is very common to regret it in the beginning. The OH SH*T phase. And you can't help but be emotional it's an extreme amount of stress on your body and mind in the beginning. Just trying to get in the groove of things. Like I said just take it one day at a time. You will feel better!!! Have faith!!! Sometimes you gotta fake it tell you make it....believe it will get better and it will. Cut out all negativity and just believe. You will get there.

You are in the..."OH SH*T What have I done?" phase. It will pass. One day at a time it will get better. Your body and mind are under an extreme amount of stress in this phase. You have a flood of hormones with WLS. It levels out when your body adjusts. And in the early stages you are dealing with the head hunger issues. And hunger real or perceived makes us irritable, anxious, and again emotional. Like I said one day at a time it will get better. Sometimes you have to fake it until you make it. Have faith!!! Sometimes all we can do is believe and cut out all negativity. Anyway, you can do this!!!!

Exactly....couldn't find anything else that supported what was said in this thread. Nothing that said VSG decreased lifespan at all much less specifically by 18 years. All studies I could find, on life span are done on gastric bypass patients. Which may or may not apply to pts with VSG. I believe VSG is still too new for them to know what it may do to our lifespan. I know for myself when my surgery is completed and when I no longer have to take all the medications just for hypertension alone my quality of life will be much improved. Without the hypertension, my cardiac status will definitely improve. So how can my life expectancy be lowered by this surgery? I searched for any study that would suggest this and couldn't find it. I am gonna make the best of the time God gives me and not worry about what my life expectancy after surgery will be. We should all live like today is our last day. Because we are never guaranteed another one.

I have a friend that is starting chemo today she is young- in her thirties. She had the gastric sleeve done around 7 months ago. Did the sleeve cause the cancer? Or did the weight loss make it easier for her to feel the lump? I agree... live life to the fullest for sure.

Saw my surgeon today and was planning to ask this question. (the eighteen year thing). After I thought about it, I realized how absurd the question would sound to him! Why would a doctor perform a procedure that cuts eighteen years off your life? Think about it.., lol

To the OP and Luckysmomma. I am sorry to hear of the troubles you are having and hope you both heal physically and emotionally. Regarding the tangent on life expectancy, if all doctors agree to do no harm by virtue of their profession, they would be unable to perform this surgery let alone have insurance companies pay for it if the benefits did not far outweigh the risks. At the end of the day health insurance coverage is determined by actuarial tables, statistics. If a procedure reduced life expectancies or had more complications than successful outcomes, it would not be covered.

Thanks again these posts r making me feel a lot better sometimes I have my good days & sometimes I have my bad I'm at the laundry mat wit a friend of mine & its a scale here I lost 4 pounds that made me feel a lot better lol I'm just a lil upset I'm a slow loser & I work hard but at least its coming off
