I don't know what else to do!

So I just hit 7 months post op. I have been staying around to same weight for the last 2 months. Has anyone else hit a stall this long? It is very hard for me to stay motivated and I just want to cry. I read about all of these people around 7 months losing all of this weight and I can't get any further. Do I need to be focusing on Protein? Do I need to change something? Do I need to switch and focus on calories or carbs???? I need help!!! SW-325, current weight 258.

Umm.. I'm a "slow loser" so probably not the best person to give advice :P

But are you tracking calories and Protein consumption?

You've lost quite a bit. I broke a stall by going to salads for lunch and dinner (using Olive Garden dressing that I got from Sam's). And eating unprocessed foods such as fruit, cheese, nuts, etc. Your stall WILL break, I promise!

I am at 8 months and have not been able to lose for about the last 3 months. I am happy that I have not gained but want to continue losing. I even bought a new scale thinking or hoping mine was broke :). I am still very good at keeping track of everything I eat but still no luck. Not giving up and hope you don't either!

I broke a recent stall by going REALLY low carb- think Atkins induction phase. When I stall, I shake things up diet-wise. Our bodies tend to adjust when we do the same thing day after day. Another thing I did was eat alternate amounts of calories- two days out of the week I would try to eat more- like 1200 calories, rest of the week 900-1000. I broke a stall in a major way after that- like 6 pounds in a week.

Thanks everyone!!!! How many carbs is low carb???? I will try that starting tomorrow. Is that all I need to keep track of is just carbs????

I just posted an update, if you would like to read it. I was actually encouraged by both my doctor and my NUTRITIONIST to follow a low-carb plan. I chose Dr. Atkins, but Protein Power or South Beach are good choices too. I keep my carbs under 20. I eat a ratio of 60/40% protein/fat. That might sound shocking, but I am lucky to eat between 600-800 calories a day.

I have increased energy, am losing about 1/2 pound per day and losing inches. Both my dr. and nutritionist (along with support group members) have found that low-carb seem to go hand in hand with this lifestyle. I eat very very little processed anything anymore. At months 2-3 I was eating too much "filler" food, like crackers, bites of Pasta, or bread, etc. All it did was fill up my sleeve, but it offered my body practically no nutritional value. I was barely getting 300-400 calories in. I was lethargic and became tired easily. I was losing weight, yes, but I was losing my hair in clumps and my skin looked terrible.

Since switching to low-carb I am still losing weight, but all those other problems have disappeared. I am giving my body what it needs nutritionally. It may be a great way for you to re-start your weight loss too.

I'm about 4 or 5 months post op and track everything and losing consistently. I am also working out 2-3 times/week. I'd say that what I'm doing is realistic (not too gung ho, but also not just sitting around). My dietician told me that I need to get 1200 calories in per day AND 60-80grams of Protein. Things just fall into place if I meet those two things.

An idea of what I eat per day:

Breakfast: Skinny vanilla Latte (gotta have this! haha) and 1 smartones Breakfast burrito. (these come 2 to a serving, but I can only eat one)

Lunch: 1/2c chicken salad and 5-6 Wheat thins

Snack: GNC Go Lean vanilla shake (this has 25grams of Protein on it's own! and low carb/calories) or a "KIND" nut bar (these are delicious!

Dinner: chicken (or other meat) cooked however (about 1/2 c) and a bite of veggies or potatoes

Late night snack: either popcorn, a yogurt with granola, string cheese or a ham stick (like a beef stick)

If i'm still hungry at night, I have a cup of milk or a Decaf, skim latte (like a cup of milk, but with coffee in it)

I get enough protein and also don't feel deprived of anything. I keep Snacks around me so I don't buy anything bad. I have had the occasional cookie though, but have lost weight anyways.

Mix things up but be sure to track. i've noticed on days where I wait til the end of the day to track, I'm able to eat a lot in the day calorie-wise. Also learned that some things I thought were healthy were actually really high in calories.

Your muscle milk sounds good! Don't skimp on Protein AT ALL or you could lose your hair and stop losing weight. I think what you are thinking is carbs... carbs and protein are different. Protein: GOOD!!!!

I think we both had surgery around the same time...I was September 10. I am still losing slowly, usually 1 pound per week. I eat out a lot and have more junk food than I should, so I know that is slowing me down. Can you give us an example of what a typical days' food is?

Breakfast=coffee with a scoop of Protein powder in it. I usually have two cups so there is two scoops. snack, string cheese and a clementine, lunch usually a salad with ceaser dressing, cherry tomatoes, shredded cheese and turkey lunchmeat. Snack been having little Debbie star crunch (yikes), supper whatever I make for the family. Tonight we had chili dogs but I didn't have the bread, just hot dog, cheese and chili. Snack, cranberry trail mix. Some days I have two little Debbie star crunches. Ugh. Sometimes sugar is my weakness. I have been walking 3.5 miles a few times a week.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
