Lump in chest/throat when drinking

Recommended Posts

I'm 2 weeks post-op and on phase 2. I take Pepcid 2x a day. Whenever I drink, even Water, it feels like it stops in my throat or chest & then goes down. Sometimes I burp. Most times I don't. According to my PA, I should be able to drink as much as I can tolerate because she said liquid just passes through my stomach. Any one else have this issue?

Hi MsZeta what you are feeling is normal. Think about a funnel with a small opening. That is what the opening of your stomach is right now. It will take a little more time for the swelling to go down and let some of that backup subside. If you try to drink too fast the air gets in too and that doesn't help things drain any faster either. It took me about a month to be able to drink anywhere close to the way I used to. Just give it time and continue to do more sipping than gulping. LOL

Yup, still some swelling going on. At 2 weeks, I was sipping very small mouthfuls of Water or I'd get the feeling you're getting. Think 1/4 mouthfuls, if you're thirsty you just have to train yourself smaller sips more frequently. I'm part camel and always drinking water, so it was hard at first, but once that swelling goes down everything goes back to normal in terms of water drinking.

This is good to hear - my husband always called me part camel, too!! LOL

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
