Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

So, my 3rd fill was Friday morning, bringing me to a total of 5.25cc in a 10cc band. For the remainder of the day Friday I couldn't tell a difference at all. And Saturday I thought I was going to chew off my arm all day, I was that hungry. I went to bad last night (tummy growling) so sure that this was the worst mistake I've ever made and that I would never be a success with my band. :scared2:

I woke up this morning after sleeping about 10hrs, and my stomach wasn't growling. I went to lunch at noon and ate less than 1/2 cup of food and I was totally stuffed. I even took 4 or 5 sips of tea during the meal! Here I am, 3hrs later, and still not really hungry. I'm kicking myself for being so hard on myself yesterday. Hopefully this is the beginning of the downward slope for me!

My 27th birthday is this Thursday, and I'm going to officially start my work-outs on Friday. I know you ladies probably want to smack me for as much as I've complained, especially when you read that I haven't done a damn bit of exercise since surgery 3 months ago. I'm a horrible, horrible bandster example, that's for sure. You all probably think it's my own fault that I am where I am and I should quit my whining and do something about it. I agree with you! Well, I'm tired of being such a slow loser, and I'm committing TODAY to walking 30mins on that treadmill every day, no excuses. If I do more than 30mins then GREAT but I will do at least 30mins every day!!!!

This is a new week! I'm so motivated it's scary!!! :crying:

I'm so glad that you are feeling some restriction! It took me a while before the full force hit me. That is great news. Go with it!

Sure girlfriend!

33 lbs divided by 6 weeks = 5.5 lbs a week, BUT I guess the challenge is for 6.5 weeks. IT's 45 days. Which is 33/45 = .73lbs a day. I think that's doable! I know, I know some will say it's not wise, but us big girls can do that. (or we can delude ourselves into thinking we can)

I think you can! When you're able to move - if your back is better, you lose weight pretty quickly. I'll be your cheerleader!

I started my losing adventure already with a day of deep cleaning in my house and studying my typical meals to see if I can reduce some sodium. Salt makes me poof like a Blowfish.

Thanks for this Dee.

Tally Ho everyone.

Well, if we are going for April 1, I guess I will go for 15 pounds on this challenge. Since I didn't make the 10 I set on the last one, maybe if I up the ante, I will get more motivated. Who is keeping track this time? Julie?

We will fill in the smiley faces every week. That way we know which weeks we reported in and who we are missing. The last space will be only 4 days since that is when we will hit April 1st.

Anyone else going to sign up for the challenge? The more the merrier!:tt2:

Hey Julie,

I posted back a ways what I wanted as my goal, but I can't remember what it was, so put me down for 30 lbs. That's 5 lbs a week and then I'll have those extra 4 days to make up for any weeks I didn't hit my mark. I've watched my carbs since being banded, I'm going to really watch my fat % now. I've tried to keep it between 30-40%, but now I'm going for the less than 30% plan.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups Water (extra water is needed with steel-cut oats)
  • 2 cups steel-cut oats
  • 1/3 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/3 cup dried apricots, chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt, or to taste

I use a variety of dried fruit, I got from Cost Co. (the antioxident variety)

Directions

Combine water, oats, dried cranberries, dried apricots and salt in a 5- or 6-quart slow cooker. Turn heat to low. Put the lid on and cook until the oats are tender and the porridge is creamy, 7 to 8 hours. Stovetop Variation Halve the above recipe to accommodate the size of most double boilers: Combine 4 cups water, 1 cup steel-cut oats, 3 tablespoons dried cranberries, 3 tablespoons dried apricots and 1/8 teaspoon salt in the top of a double boiler. Cover and cook over boiling water for about 1 1/2 hours, checking the water level in the bottom of the double boiler from time to time.

Ingredient note: Steel-cut oats, sometimes labeled "Irish oatmeal, " look like small pebbles. They are toasted oat groats—the oat kernel that has been removed from the husk that have been cut in 2 or 3 pieces. Do not substitute regular rolled oats, which have a shorter cooking time, in the slow-cooker oatmeal recipe.

As a note to the steel cut oats - I make mine with half-water, half vanilla Protein Shake to up the Protein. It makes it kind of sweet, but I really like it and it ups the protein.

Wow! That's a great idea Mini! So do you make them at night in your Slow Cooker? And you replace half the Water with a Vanilla Protein shake at that time? Do you add the dried fruit too?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
