Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

skyblu79, thanks for writing back! I hope that the NC FillCenterUSA works out well for you and you find your sweet spot soon.

Lap, those pictures are fantastic! If you don't mind, I'm going to keep them to show to people. If you do mind, just let me know, but I figured since there aren't any identifiers to you, it would be OK. What a familiar sight...so nice to see Dr. K's smiling face.

It doesn't look like I'll be seeing it soon. I have an appointment on Friday with a local doctor for my second fill. Here's hoping it works out. Of course I would love to return to Dr. K, but it's just difficult cost- and time-wise. This guy has pretty good reviews and the cost is really affordable. After reading my surgery report, he said he'd be glad to take me on. Hopefully it'll all work out. Weight loss is slooooooooooooow now, although I did finally hit 30 pounds off from the start of my pre-op diet! Yay! :rolleyes2:

Something funny happened last week -- my co-worker's husband came in to see her and in the course of making small talk, he looked at me and said, "Did you lose weight?" It was funny because my co-worker screeched at him about how you're not supposed to ask people stuff like that! I just smiled and said yes, I have. :smile2:

That's cute Greenie!

Isn't it nice when people notice? I'm loving it!

Glad you all enjoyed my Hokey Pokey shots. I shared them with Alex too and posted them on the LapBandTalk photo section. No worries, right? The fills are nothing to be afraid of.

Here are more photos for you from my trip...I took a ton of them. Enjoy!!!

Mal- So sweet of you to say that. Thanks. Hope all is well with you and yours. Been thinking of you and hoping all is going better.

Michelle (Dynamo)- I could have sworn I saw you at the Wal-Mart near Golden off 470 or 70 in a red car. I was walking through the parking lot. *Here's hoping you tell us a little about love and all the beautiful things happening in your life. How inspiring to hear you say you don't believe you would have been ready for Ed or found love had you not been banded. I feel you on that one.

Anita- You've been quiet of late. Hope all is well with you and yours. Are you subing a lot? I'm guessing yes. Post back and give an update on you.

LA- Hey! You're on my top 10 on Myspace. I hope we can meet some day. Luck on the fills. I went back to Dr. K after trying a fill center.

GreenChrys- You go ahead and show mama. Tell her it's no big deal on the fills. It's anyone's guess where people get their information. Rattles me when I hear falsehoods.

Dee- Let me know how those Spanx work out. I'm looking to try them and going for Lane Bryant or whoever recommends a brand to me.

Brandymom - you are rocking! Ditch the clothes and keep rolling.

********************************************************************************

Glad to be home. Having a wonderful experience and still humming from my time at Aurora. I truly benefitted from my meeting with Paula and learned some areas I need to improve upon. On the upside, since my fill and a few changes I've tweaked with my meals, I can't stay off the potty! Need to get on the scale and see where I am since last week.

*and did anyone else hear word on a gathering that is in the works for the patients for late summer/early fall?* Around August. I'd love to have a Red Robin gathering... and I will be happy to lead the charge on plans for that so no ONE person is responsible. I was thinking we could bring two articles of clothing and have a swap, nothing huge just a few favorites to pass along. Something to keep in mind.

Until the next one, steady as we go!

Lap -- Ditto what Mal said! You look amazing -- about 10 years younger; gorgoeus cheek bones, I tell ya, gorgeous!!

Ditto me in on that one too Shel!

Lap you look great! Your complexion is flawless! Not one blemish! I'm so jealous! I'd have the worst skin! AND now that I'm losing weight, my face is starting to hang and I'm starting to look like a marionette. You know how their mouths are!

What am I going to look like after I've lost all my weight?

Hello ladies --

I have my initial consult with Dr. K next Tuesday April 22 -- I almost got the band two years ago but chickened out -- was afraid I wouldn't be able to handlge the emotional loss of food and being able to eat. However, 2 years later and 10 lbs heavier I have finally decided to move forward (assuming Dr. K will do it). I just want to say thank you for all the amazing and supportive posts you all have put on this board -- reading them has been very helpful in making my decision -- I hope to be a regular contributor. I am pretty nervous -- any questions you wished you asked Dr. K before the surgery. Does anyone know the proces post the initial consult -- roughly how long does it take before you can get your band -- a month? six months? I've been overweight for the past 15 years, and now that I've made this decision I am eager (impatient?) to get it moving forward. Again -- thanks for all the great posts -- I think it is amazing how supportive you all are of each other. Wish me luck...

Hi SkiGirlDenver!

I too waited about two years from finding out about the band to get it. If you are like me, you have done a lot of reading in the past two years so you probably won't have as many questions for Dr. K. I didn't. I can't think of anything I wish I'd asked him, but he's very easy to talk to and absolutely willing to answer any questions, no matter what they are. The FAQ section of this site has some lists of questions, so you might want to look over those for ideas. He basically walks you through a packet of information that you'll get ahead of time, that explains everything pre-, during and post-op.

I had my consult on January 2 and surgery on February 14, so it can move pretty fast. I think it just depends on scheduling -- yours and theirs. I specifically requested that week in February so I could take the time off work.

Good luck and I hope to see you around!

Hey everyone...

I notice Alex added the Rep feature. It's the scales at the bottom of your avatar block. You click on it and open up to add comments to a person's post, what they do so when you hear "I'm repping you for that one" expect a colored square to show up.

ShelbieCallie thanks so much. You all make me feel so encouraged.

I have to give credit to goood genes for my skin, the same ones that gave me the fat gene but hey, take the sweet with the salty in life.

I also swear by Bare Minerals makeup. My skin responds so well to it so Dee, I highly recommend it. Bad skin? Proactive. I STILL get breakouts and I'm 48 so what kind of crazy is that? Proactive is the bomb!! Their night cream for a breakout is nothing short of magic mojo.

Doing superb friends. I changed my diet up big time. I had assumed so much didn't have fat, was good for me when in fact in only slowed me up. Each time I say 'no' I realize what I was still intaking even after the band, kind of a ...whoa! I would have normally eaten that. Reminder to all, it's 60 grams of Protein a day. I was even off on that. Seven pounds down since last week.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
