Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Recommended Posts

WOW DEE!!! I can already see you changing!! Keep it up!

Thanks Brandy!

You're too nice!

I think when you have over 200lbs to lose, it takes a while before others notice.

Not one person, other than some Band Buddies have said a word about my weight loss.

Thanks!

I can see it and I'm measuring my waist for when my weight stalls.

Or I have to deal with the dependent edema in my ankles.

I do feel thrilled!

It's an exciting time in my life!

AND no, we didn't get any bad weather -- not a drop!

I hate that!

We missed you for nothing!

I can already tell a big difference in your face. Keep taking pictures...you will see it, sooner than later!

Well Thank You Brandymom!

We missed you at Red Robin! I hope things settle at your house.

I figured you missed because of the weather or your daughter or you.

See, lots of reasons!

We did save you a space.

Hi Guys~

Sorry that I missed RR, between my ankle, school (2 1/2 more weeks!!!) and my daughter, I just couldn't swing it! I will be there next month with bells on!

Shelbie~ Everything that I have learned from my DD is that you have to be their advocate. No one else cares. They really dont. They dont know the heartache, the struggles, the frustrations and the tears. Only you do. You are doing the right thing. Just keep fighting girl! They will either do it willingly or will do it just to get rid of you. Keep fighting!! Keep advocating!! Were the only ambassadors for our kiddos!

On a positive note, as of this morning, I am down 45 pounds. I am almost 3 dress sizes smaller and am 3 pounds away from what I was when I delived my daughter. I am so excited and hopefully, will be at goal by one year!

Take care everyone!

Brandy

Wow! Three dress sizes? That's great! It does feel good to be in control of my eating!

And to be working out every morning makes me feel better. How are you doing with that - with your ankle?

Hi all -

I just took a long walk along the highline canal, it was great to get outside. Thanks for the compliments. Dee, your face is definitely changing, as will your shape. I am so anxious to lose the next 80 pounds now. But it feels great to be healthy again. Maybe better than ever. Anita, Mal, Bookender, Brandy and the rest of you, I hope that you will come to Red Robin next month. It is really exciting to see the changes, as we take at least half of what we order home and feel full on the small portion. What a victory!

Michelle

I'm FINALLY down 40 lbs. now...went to Anchorage and got a teeny-tiny fill so now I'm up to 3.2 cc. I debated about going back the next day and getting more, but I didn't want to be over-zealous and if I have problems then it's a MAJOR problem, if you know what I mean!

That's an awesome milestone! Hoo rah!

Hello Friends:

I'm not going to attempt to name specific people and decided to free association write my post.

Wishing you all a healthy and happy week with many moments of powerful change and appreciation for where you are at right now and the hope that you have for the future.

Children and autism and meds and the system; My heart softens and at the same time my adreneline courses strong when I recall or READ anything related to families in the clutches of a clogged system. My daughter had old cuts, she use to be a cutter, and without looking at them, her pediatrician sent us to the ER assuming they were fresh. Without exploring deeper into where she was at mentally, the ER psychiatrist did what in Florida is called a "Baker Act". In California it is something like what happened to Britney Spears. The doctor then went home and no one else was there the rest of the night. They left my daughter, my husband and myself to sit in a treatment area behind a curtain. After nine hours I was threatened to walk out with her, it was 4 am. They called the cops on ME and he stood gaurd while I flipped out on the head nurse who finally called this doctor. Another nurse finally told me at 6 AM the doctor refused to come in because he didn't think he would be paid for his services to my daughter. By 8 AM a new doctor was in, I repeated everything to him, added his name to my narrative I had started to write at midnight and he discharged my daughter. The followup was a scathing letter to the hospital admin., the board of directors, the state of Florida insurance commissioner, the state director of medical advisory and a host of county and state representatives. Six months later I saw in the paper that the hospital named a new director. I got little to no solice from that. The system sucks but the more we bang our drums when things go wrong and ring our bells when things go right..... ( like a Lap Band that I paid for and fly to Denver for aftercare because I believe in it so much I was willing to and am still willing to fork over the dough myself )..... the more we see change. Change happens when people become involved in the process or start the process.

Autism. The best: Louis de la parte Center at the University of South Florida, Center for Autism and related disabilities. Call them, ask all the questions you can think of that are a plethora of resource. Florida Mental Health Institute and here is a page of links from their website: Florida Mental Health Institute

Losing 100. WOWZA. I am yearning for the 100 mile marker and also for being down into the 100's. I haven't seen my 100's in about 20 years. I'll see them. I know.

Red Robin. The photos are fantastic. :smile2: I'm hoping to be there in April.

Denver: I will be in Denver the night of April 9th flying in sometime in the morning. My appt. is for the 10th and I will meet with Paula at 9 for a regroup on my food plan. I'm feeling smaller, I'm feeling changes happening like crazy. I feel the need to reorganize and retrain myself. I will get my fill at 10 am with Dr. K.

Card: Sent my card via email. I created a funky little poem, curved the font via type space to create the simulation of a woman's body, and then added a bikini top and bottom through Publisher. I added fireworks around the edges. I wish I could do more for him. He's changed my life.

No matter where we live...even way up in Alaska...your words inspire me, you all KNOW...you KNOW this journey. Words will never capture how much you all add to my life.

Until the next one. Hugs to you all.

Patty

To anyone who may know

I have been reading on other threads about sleep apnea and how important it is to have the sleep study done to avoid major complications under anesthesia. I have not been told by Dr. Kirshenbaums office to have it done and I will be banded on April 4th. This would leave me virtually no time to get one done in Canada where it's free, but you wait for these kind of tests. please let me know how you all did and if you had the study or not .

Thanks again Lizzieann

Lizzieann: I have sleep apnea and when I went for my surgery... the anestethiologist did ask me about it. I told him the settings I had to use on my CPAP and he told me that would be helpful for him during surgery.

If you don't have sleep apnea, or are unsure if you do, I would talk to Dr K about it. If you don't have any signs, or have never been concerned about it before, not sure I would stress over it now.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
