Any ladies out there have PCOS put your hands up!

Hey ladies! So Im about to have my VGS in June and the number one factor has got to be because of my PCOS! I just wanted to know if anyone else out there in VGS land have these same issues and if anything has changed since surgery? So Im currently 277lbs and knockin on 300's door. ( uhg) but ever since I graduated highschool I began gaining weight without even eating bad and didnt know why. I would have chronic migraines , irregular periods ( sometimes 2 times a month or not at all) pains in my lower abdomen, acne breakouts, back pain etc and no answers! 2 years ago I finally was diagnosed with PCOS AND WAS PUT ON BIRTH CONTROL TO CONTROL My symptoms and issues. I gained weight on the pill in order to have a regular period but Im still dealing with headaches and migraines EVERY SINGLE DAY, my cysts rupture causing extreme cramping, pain and bleeding! I was told that I cant have kids as of right now. although not physically on my period, I get all of my period symptoms and craving so its causing me to gain more and more weight. Now my knees hurt, my back hurts ( Did I mention Im flat footed as well?) I cant work out because of my constant migraines and pain its horrible! I feel like a failure! I was losing weight and at 190lbs when I developed this and it caused me to go down hill now I feel like a complete freaking failure. When I heard about this surgery I was ALL OVER IT! They told me that getting this surgery and losing this weight will make my PCOS go away, no more chronic migraines, no more infertility, no more cysts rupturing! I couldnt believe it! Im praying to God it works! Its taking such a toll on my life, physically, emotionally and even my schooling. Can anyone out there relate to my pain and able to testify that this surgery helps make PCOS go away!??!?!?!?!?! Advice needed! thank you!!!!!!!! :)

Wow girl we can totally relate !!! So glad you got it under control now with birth control.. Except my birth control hasn't made much of a difference..w Hen you getting sleeved!?

Hey there, I have PCOS as well. If you go to the special interest tab, there is a category for PCOS. I suggest checking that out. I found it super helpful before my surgery as there are many women on there with great success stories concerning the sleeve and PCOS. :)

Thanks mrsG! I had no clue, I'm new to the site as of Friday so I'm just learning how to navigate through here but I will for sure take a look into that I will find it very helpful! Thanks for the heads up

I have PCOS... and Hypothyroidism... I feel like this surgery has been my saving grace with my weight... Before no matter what I did I could not for the life of me lose weight, I am very fit, even at my heaviest weight. With the amount of time I used to spend in the gym I should have lost the weight on my own. It was the PCOS and Hypothyroidism. I have the Mirena IUD so that helps with my periods (I don't get them at all) and hopefully losing weight will help me concieve another baby. It took my DH and I 2 years and 2 miscarrages to convieve our son and then after trying for baby #2 for a year with 2 miscarriages and no success, I decided it was time to do something more. Thats when I decided to stop trying to concive, I saw my surgeon July of 2012, got Mirena (to prevent unplanned pregnancy durning weightloss) Aug 2012, then got my Sleeve done 12.12.2012... I am down over 50lbs and I couldn't be happier!!! In March of next year I am going to have my Mirena taken out and see what happens with my cycles for a few months and begin charting and temping while using condoms, then if all goes well in June DH and I will hopefully start trying and FINALLY I will get pregnancy with baby #2...With my surgeons and OBGYNS blessing to try at 18 months out! But this surgery has been awesome!

Sorry for writing a novel!

Oh my lanta you poor thing, must be horrible trying to conceive and having so many complications! Luckily with me I am not trying but want to one day so i cant relate to you in that aspect but I could only imagine :( Things will get better! We ALL will get better were in this together and Ive heard so many success stories about pcos and one day we will be too!!!!! Counting down the days till surgery! Once you have yours since itll probably before me, keep me updated on your pcos progress :)

I also have PCOS - quite mild but I've been on the pill since I was 16 for that reason as well as not wanting to get pregnant. I'm hoping VSG will reverse it. My endo has just asked me to switch to Minera IUD from the pill because of the increased fertility caused by bariatric surgery and her concern that the pill might not be absorbed perfectly (despite it not being a malabsortive procedure) . I understand it will be painful and I'm terrified for my appt. next week.

There are two types of PCOS. Don't let any doctor fool you there is one type from being over weight. As fat produces estrogen, estrogen produces fat.....but you can have PCOS when being in a healthy weight range. Is this something you have always had or just as your gained weight?

I have PCOS it was all blamed on me being over weight. I still have migraines I don't have a regular period ( I also have a mirena IUD) so I don't know if it just me or the IUD. I did stop growing facial hair for the past year while I lost the bulk of my weight but it has started back up again recently.

I don't want to discourage you at all but There is great control of PCOS symptoms with food. I have to stay away from refined sugars and that helps my symptoms a lot.

I didn't know that obesity could cause PCOS.. I was initally diagnosed with PCOS when I was 19... I still haden't gotten my period so we went to the drs and they had no answers so then I was refered to my reproductive endocronoligist and he diagnosed me with PCOS... I was in a healthy weight, he said I probably have had it forever, he also believes it is herditary (apperently some drs will argue this) My mom cousin and sister all have it and on my dads side 2 of my aunts have it and they beilieve my cousin has it as well...

Don't be afraid, Mirena is AWESOME! I am not going to lie, the insert hurts but it is literally momentary pain, then for a few days following I had period like cramps then I was fine! Personally I love the freedom of Mirena... I always forgot to take BC pills with my Mirena I dont even have to think about it... I don't even do self checks, DH swears he can feel the strings when we... But I donno... I know it is still there and in position bc I just went to my biannual OBGYN appt and they did a quick ultrasound to check the placement.

So with pcos does the pill in some cases fix symptoms? Sorry if its a dumb question, I'm trying to self diagnose cos I hate doctors at the moment!

Some people have very minimal discomfort. For me, it was the WORST pain of my life- no joke. I've had a tonsillectomy, two csections, vsg with gall bladder, and I've also broke my back in three different places. The insertion of the mirena was horrible. My uterus is shaped oddly and the doc kept getting blocked. It took three tries. I also have a TINY cervix. I had it placed the day after valentines and I'm still spotting. The cramps were horrendous for the first three weeks. Do your research and make sure that this is what you really want.

@libbyb .... The pill does help some what. I got on the pill because of my pcos I would have my period twice a month or not even at all and i had HORRRRIBLE headaches like 10/10 now being on the pill they are like 9/10 lol so it only helps a minimal amount for me but all girls are different and react to the pill in different ways. I tried depo shot at first and it was horrible it made me gain weight and have my period/spotting im not even joking for over 3 months straight!!!! its made my periods less heavy and on schedule for once in my life lol but it still made me gain a little bit of weight at first not too much and it didnt help with cysts rupturing or anything uhg but im hopeful this surgery will!!
