If you're employed. How long are you taking off OR how long did you take off work? I have two weeks of vacation available but I also have the option of using short term disability if needed. Opinions welcome!

I am estimating two weeks off but I can go back to work with lifting limitations. I don't get sick much and we are allowed to store up our time. I have about 4 months stored up so not a prob for me.

I work for a school district and although I don't get spring break off, my surgery is the start of our spring break so my son (14 years) will be home to help if needed.

How does long term disability work? Full pay or partial?

Good luck.

I am taking three weeks off. Because I can.

LOL, yes I can because I have been at the same place for 30 years and have over 1600 sick hours available. And with our stupid new PTO system, I can't use them unless/until I am out more than five days.

So, yeah, because I can.

My suggestion use your short term disablity... you know when you start looking good your going to want to take your vacation lol

Really depends on your job. I felt I could return in a week.

I took off two weeks and it was plenty. I probably could have gone back after a week. I was able to use sick leave, so I didn't have to use any vacation.

I took off 3 weeks just to make sure I had the Water and food routine in place. I actually could have gone back to work earlier because I felt fine after the surgery, but it was nice to have the time off to relax.

I was sleeved on a Tuesday and was back at work the following Monday. Took a combination of sick days and vacation days.

I am planning on taking 4 or 5 weeks off. I also have short term disability . I have to use 3 days off sick time and the rest is covered 100% so I am planning on using my time to heal properly and get use to the sleeve.

I was sleeved Monday and was working from home by Thursday.....and back in the office on Friday.

I have a desk job and didn't want to use more than a couple of days PTO. I also didn't want to use STD because no one knew I was having surgery and I wanted to keep it that way.

Same with me, lucky 8. My surgery is s he filed on a Friday and I'm planning on taking one week PTO so it will be a total of 10 days. My doc said that should be fine, even though I'm a nurse. I work in the recovery room so the most I do is push stretchers and I'll just make sure I don't push them alone!

I took two weeks off and then let my body dictate the week after that. Worked a couple half days, some full days, then was back up to speed from then on out.

I took 3 weeks since I have lots of use or lose sick time. Then I will have hand surgery and be out another 2 weeks. So I'll be out a total of 5 weeks. I'm making the most of this time off and getting in at least 5 miles of walking a day.

I'm in agreement with beba, save your vacation days. Use it as a reward when you've reached goal weight.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
