I have been told and have read that cold cereal is a no-no. Why exactly? Does it have to do with carbs, or is it hard on our sleeves? There are plenty of healthy cereals out there, and I would love to add a little variety back into my Breakfast routine.

Generally it is a processed food that does have a fair number of carbs. Depending on where you are in the process, the viscosity (the hardness) of the Cereal can cause some irritation to the seam that has been created in your stomach. Your nutritionist will give you the best answer that works for you. I've tried really hard to stay away from processed foods, but understand your need for variety. You might ask about granola or muclex that are aren't processed and make a good alternative. Steel cut oats are also good if you are further out in the process.

I eat Special K Protein cereal on a regular basis. I was allowed to have it during my soft food stage as long as I soaked it in the milk first. It's like 12 g of Protein all together.

I was going to try the Special K Protein Cereal. Before my surgery I loved Fiber One cereals. Fiber keeps you fuller longer and I just feel so much better when I get enough fiber. I'm geting next to none now obviously...

I also love it with coconut or almond milk. Adds a little more Protein to it.

Cold cereal is great to add some Fiber in your diet. I eat it to help with Constipation issues. Just pick some good grain/wheat cereal and enjoy!!! :)

Might I add fiber one as a good choice for cold cereal. My favorite cereal and low in calories, but oh so high in fiber goodness.

Never been told no to cereal .... was on my 3 week plan if it was soaked. Special K is a goodie :)

I've heard some people say cereal is a no go for them because basically it's the equiviliant for eating and drinking at the same time. I have cereal every now and then and haven't had an issue though.

When I was having gallbladder attacks last month (had it out 2/4) I started craving cereal all the time. It was the only thing that sounded appetizing to me for some reason. After doing some research, turns out a diet with healthy carbs is really good for gallbladder issues! So I indulged in a little of everything for a few weeks before surgery, especially cereal. I stuck with Fiber One, though. I still have it on occasion. And there are several different varieties so shop around. I didn't find my fave until I had looked at a few stores.

I love every kind of Fiber One I have tried. I used to eat it several times a week. So just to clear this up for me, is fiber actually an okay thing to eat? I've been so confused. Everyone's diet is different, some can have carbs, some say carbs are evil. Coming from a medical perspective (I'm a nurse), I would never counsel a patient to avoid carbs entirely. The body needs a healthy amount of the right carbs to function correctly. So why are carbs such a big deal? Why was I told (by my hospitals bariatric nurse) that I would never eat a fiber rich diet again? She also told me that I would never eat carbs again, period. Healthy or unhealthy. Half the crap she said to me didn't make any sense, so I pretty much just ignored her. Turns out she was wrong about quite a few things anyway, according to my doctor...

Obviously I know Protein is king, but how about some balance? I think I'm getting frustrated because this is supposed to be a lifestyle change, not a crash diet. I want to be able to keep my weight off, and I know that a no carb diet is unrealistic.

Healthy carbs are OK when you are active.

I have no carb restrictions and hasnt slowed my weight loss down ... I have lost 70lbs and 3 1/2 months out. Only 40lbs to go. Im in it for the lifestyle change .... not another Atkins diet. Some people avoid carbs as it makes them crave more junk and they are slider foods. Good carbs dont lead to cravings and are great for active sleevers.

Some of us are just cursed with bodies that react bad to carbs. I don't loose if my carbs are over 50. I wish that was not true but it is. My surgeon said I could have up to 129 carbs a day! But I know my diet history, I must be under 50 to lose.

      Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
