FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved 2/22/13 and down 27lbs! Pain hasn't been an issue' date=' did take me a few weeks to get my energy back. Eating and tolerating almost everything I have tried. Hard for me to remember to eat SLOW! Being a nurse I am used to eating on the run... I have found I do better with 4 small meals than 3, I was wanting to snack in the evening.[/quote']

I was sleeved on 21st, pretty much same in weight loss

I just ate an innie piece of pizza!!!! Why do I feel so guilty? <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':(' /> I'm 5 weeks out and so far so good. Normally I would ate 5! But I'm scared due to eating the crust.

I think it's normal to have relapses. It's not like you can fully relapse... Not at this point anyway. I mean, when u think about it... We went through a complete 180 change. From over indulging in our favorite foods to being in complete liquids! Then slowly having the basic foods.. So I think it's kind of natural to want and even try the old stuff that you miss. Not that it's okay to continue to taste or indulge, but I think you'll be just fine. ;)

Yes, just spooned it up a little bit at a time and let it melt away. Someone mentioned they used it in an omelet as well. I think I just get really excited when I eat things that are flavorful and not sweet ;)

Yes! I dream of shopping in the same stores as my sisters... who have never had weight issues! I haven't bought new clothes, I'm just walking around in my extra baggy 22s and 20s.

My husband was eating Stacy's pita chips and jalapeño and artichoke dip this afternoon and I kept hearing him crunch those delicious pita chips so I put one in my mouth and sucked on it and then spit it out just to get the flavor! My friend is a dietician and she actually said that to me the other day! If you get a bad craving for something then take a small bite chew it and then spit it back out!!

there are a lot of posts on VST about this--one person even has in a signature line why it's bad for you. It is a form of disordered eating and it also can cause gastric juices to get going and lead to GI problems. I'm not trying to be preachy bc I know you are just sharing something that helped you, but based on what I've read, I'm not going to try it. I am surprised that a dietitian would recommend it....

As far as where you lose weight first, I have always heard--first on last off--and last on, first off. So depending on where your weight is distributed, I think it varies by person. Basically our "problem areas" (for me my hips) will the be the last ones where the weight will come off. I always lose first in my waist bc I'm naturally an hourglass. My pants have been falling down bc they are loose in my waist now but my hips catch them! I have noticed that my face looks a little smaller too. It's so difficult to look at yourself objectively and tell, so I think the fit of clothes that you've worn a lot are a good gauge.

Thanks I appreciate the feedback. She was not suggesting doing it on a regular basis. It's better than actually chewing and swallowing that little bit of forbidden food! And I guess I should clarify that I sucked on the pita chip did not actually chew it, just got the flavor from it!! So sick of sweet!!

Agree- as a therapist intern..almost complete... Spit and chew is part of the eating disorder category-- a one time thing..... Not co concerned... However.... It can get serious and have almost just as serious repercussions as bulimia---

I'm officially one month post op. I'm down 29 pounds including the pre op diet. I'm done with the liquid, pureed and soft food . Today I advance to the on going nutrition stage. Not going to lie I'm a little nervous. I feel like the chains are off but I'm afraid of running free, lol.

I'm really trying to be more structured with my meals. I called my NUT to ask about calorie intake and etc. She told me just to focus on Protein and fluids. I've struggled with protein because i can't tolerate the shakes. Hopefully that will change more that I'm eating food. I'm using MFP to track everything.

I'm curious to know what is your calorie intake for those one month out?

I am just over a month. I have been hitting 500-600 calories. The surgeon & NUT said I should be shooting for 800 and 80g of protein with approximately 1/2 of my calories from protein then 25% fat & the other 25% from carbs.

I must say it is hard to do!!!

I have been stalled, but the other day my husband was walking slower behind me. I asked him what he was doing...he said he was checking out my butt!!! LOL he said he could tell I'm losing!! Success!!!!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
