FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone and congrats on all the weight loss. Here's my question... what are you all eating? I'm 3 weeks out, on pureed foods, my menu consists basically of not much. I lack creativity for sure. Lol

B) Protein shake

S) cottage cheese

D) protein shake

S) strawberry core power (sometimes)

I eat sf Jello & pudding, cottage cheese, sf Popsicles,

I've lost 30 # total, since pre-op, I'm kind of discouraged cuz I see others that have lost a lot more. AND I think I've hit a dang stall! beside having no energy. And am tired a lot.

Hello, All. I was sleeved on 2/26. I'm a little discouraged because since about 12 days post-op, I've only lost about a lb or maybe 1.5 lbs. I know that is a bit whiney of me since I lost 15 lbs in the first 12 days post-op, but I need to lose so much and I know these first 6 months are the honeymoon phase of losing.

My sleeve was very easy. No nausea and I was up and walking around the hospital almost immediately. I was released the next day and my pain seemed to be almost gone when I started having really bad pain upon getting up and down and eventually even while seated. But the P.A. said it was normal and would get better with movement. Then it was getting better and I could even sleep on my side when I must have aggravated it at work and now it hurts again. But I finally was able to take a nice brisk walk yesterday of about 1.5 miles. Hopefully that will jumpstart my losing again.

One thing I noticed and I wanted to see if anyone else has, but my body has always done things differently from the norm. When I was losing fast, I was freezing cold at night. I would have to turn the heater up to what would normally be stifling hot for me, and then sleep under extra covers. I felt that way last night again, so fingers crossed.

Went to my 5 week checkup and I have only lost 5 lbs since the first week out checkup. 26 since beginning of pre-op diet. I was frustrated but the NP said that was the average weight loss for this checkup. She told me to keep following the plan and it will come off. She also said they like to see an average of 5 lbs a month at my BMI.

I know my clothes are feeling much looser. My PJ bottoms actually fell off last night when I sneezed. A little embarrassing in front of the nephew. Luckily I pulled em back up before he noticed.

I'm really thankful for my sleeve friends here. You guys have kept me sane knowing I'm not alone in the struggles and able to rejoice in the victories together.

I eat scrambled eggs, string cheese, tuna salad, ricotta bake, chicken salad, soft chicken...your food needs to be swallowed the consistency of apple sauce, so any high protein, low fat/carb food is great! My doctor said the more protein I can get from real food the better it is.

Ok, so I tried to search...couldn't find much on here- but I might be looking in the wrong spot?

Anyone found a good source for recipes for sleevers? Anyone bought any?

Hey guys,

I haven't been on here too much anymore but I thought I would update. Surgery was 2/4 and I am currently down 48 pounds. ( 21 pre-op and 27 post) I haven't noticed too much of a difference yet but I have had to alter my uniform for work twice.

I am able to eat more and my hungry has returned. I started taking an acid reducer today in hopes I am feeling acid and not hunger.

I also quit losing for awhile and the drop like crazy. As of right now, I've been playing with the same pound for 4 days. Going to join a gym and try an kick start all of this.

Hope everyone is doing well

It's sooo hard when you want to get in as much protein and liquids as you can for your body to have energy but you just can't! I just started puréed and am also 3 weeks out--- my goal is to eat more than drink but I just can't make my stomach cooperate! So it's mostly just shakes and Water with a few ounces of food a day! Hang in there--- I pray our energy will increase once our calories and intake increase.

Question for those who are working out.

I am starting at the gym (my loss is slow so I'm ready to get it going) and doing weights and cardio now.

When can we start doing abs and things of that nature? I did an ab machine...I did 5 and 3 sets each and it was fine. I started out slow and didn't use weights yet and it seemed good and no pain. I am 5 weeks out tomorrow. It felt so good to get in and work out hard(felt like a hard work out since I haven't been in a long time).

My PA, who has an exercise physiology background, says no weights until I'm 12 weeks out. :( I have about 5 more weeks. Can't wait to get back to the weight machines! I am allowed to do organized exercise class now (6 weeks) and the exercise bike, treadmill, etc.

What stage are you in? I am in Stage 2 Pureed' date=' it is on my menu list. I just wondered it we had to puree it or if it is soft and gooey enough to go down. My guidelines say cottage cheese consistency or pureed. Can't wait to try it , it sounds great.[/quote']

I am on purées too. I didn't purée this bake because it really is soft enough on its own. The ricotta is pretty soft to begin with.

See some posts evening of March 18th. Sounds like consistency would be like cottage cheese...CHEW CHEW CHEW!

Has anyone tried Shelly's ricotta bake? I'm only in puréed and not sure if it will go down easily... Any thoughts? I've heard it's sooo yummy!

I am having the same issue. I am on puréed foods and I am not able to eat much of anything. I am chewing on my food as indicated however it still feels like it's being stuck. I have had chicken and chicken and liquid yogurts but those seem to be making my stomach very sick. Even when I drink fluids I'm constantly feeling nauseous but my doctor is just indicating he thinks my stomach is just healing slower than others.

I did have some mashed potatoes with gravy from KFC and my stomach seemed to tolerate that well and I can usually have a small bit of applesauce

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
