FEBRUARY SLEEVERS 2013....how you doing after you've been Sleeved

Recommended Posts

Sad thing is that these are my pre op pants. I just can't wait for the swelling to go down. Txs for the feedback. Good to know we aren't having to deal with this alone.

I'm STILL in my pre op pants too! They are just a little big but very comfy (;

Just given it time the swelling goes down. For me it was day 10. And soon your pre op pants will be a thing of the past (:

Hey there everyone i just got my sleeve done on the 28th and the first 2 days were horrible the gas pain was bad but after the first two days it gets better. Right now im on my 4th day I still have a little pain and when i drink Water its in little sips and then i feel full and have to walk around and then able to take a little sip of water! Im really looking forward to start loosing weight i just cant wait till the pain completely goes away!! Im glad to be able to have this forum to talk about how i feel and be able to read about other experiences!!

I was sleeved on 2/28 as well...I'm on here all the time just to make sure what I'm experiencing is normal :) lol

Seems each day is better than the day before. Still having some gas pains, but more than anything, my back muscles hurt...I've been putting the heating pad on my back and ice pack on my stomach, seems to keep the swelling down, but not much other than the liquid lortab helps my back right now :/

Anyone else got a really sore back?

So here I am day 2 post op...on full liquids, having a he'll of a time getting fluids and Protein in. Been trying to add Protein Powder to stuff, but the scoops are such hugs volume, I keep managing to make everything into a protein paste...yuck.

So far I've had the best luck with carbmaster yogurt with 1/2 scoop protein and I cut that whole mess with skim milk...

Anyone havd advice on making it through these next two weeks??

Thanks!

I had problems with the milk. Have you tried Almond milk? Try making your shakes with 4-6 oz or less of almond milk, save the yogurt for a snack. If you need more flavoring for the shakes everybody is making the liquid drops for Water like "Mia" I use Kroger (stop&shop) brand for added flavor, no extra calories. The milk created gas and I was lactose intolerant didn't realize it till I started this process.

I start my morning by doing one full bottle of water and then cup of tea (=20oz liquid) and 30 mins to hour later I have my first shake.< /p>

There are a lot of different suggestions and approaches to this, somewhere there's something that will work for you.

My NUT said to stop the almond milk, at only 1gm Protein per cup it isn't worth the volume (nutritionally), whereas skim milk is 8gm protein per cup.

I went back to the basics this morning ...1 c skim milk, 1 scoop chocolate whey protein powder by body fortress ..seemed to go down easier.

My NUT recommended skim milk over almond milk...it's like 1gm of Protein to 9gm. I'm going to try this next meal ;)

Where did you get that protein?

Whats the gm/scoop on it?

Unjury strawberry Sorbet protein powder is great in milk, cold Water or lemonade. One scoop of UNJURY (before you add it to the beverage) provides 20 grams of high quality protein -- as much as 3 eggs or 3 ozs of cooked beef or chicken -- without high fat or cholesterol.

Watching the documentary "Hungry For Change" on Netflix right now - Wow! I had never heard of this before. No wonder it is so so so hard to stop eating junk. I want to eat real food, not "food-like products".

My back was SO sore and just started feeling back to normal a few days ago. I'll be 3 weeks out tomorrow. The pain was mostly in my middle to lower back. Lying down and having my husband rub my back were really my only remedies. It'll get better with time though!

Same here. I'm almost three weeks out and last night is the first night I didn't wake up with back pain.

I have had heat pad whole time (day 3) it helps so much.

Heating pad and vicodin have been my bestfriend.I sleep with it, wake with it, and everything in between. Wish my heating pad plugged up in my car.

p.s. I am day 3 post op.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
