Getting ready to go for my follow up with the surgeon who was loud and very verbal when she said, " We'll, that's a stupid questions." I hope our talk goes well. I will be talking to her about this before we talk about my body. It's not easy but must be done. I am prepared to walk away from her care if she doesn't show she cares and apologizes. Her behavior is inexcusable in my opinion. It's not ok to behave this was on a professional setting. Wish me luck!!!

Sannah...I wish you nothing but the best. It sounds like you are going through such a tough time and yet you have your head up and you are showing your strength!! You go girl !

If you need to seek out another bariatric specialist, you are following your own instincts, and there is nothing wrong with that. Your current surgeon sounds very insensitive!!

Good luck with everything!!!

I hope you are having a good day

Best,

Katie,

Thank you so much. This road has been SO hard for me. I am starting to stand on my feet again. I am going to counseling because this leak has left me an emotional mess. Thanks for posting. It helps me to read such positivity. I am trying so hard to get better, but I need to feel supported by my dr. Maybe this dr isn't a good fit if I can't ask questions about my body and health without being made to feel stupid.

Thank you again for all the well wishes and positivity.

I will post after my appointment ( sitting in the waiting room now) and let you guys know how it goes.

Thankfully I have am hour break after seeing the dr and then a counseling session. It's going to be a good day!!!

Let me know how it goes!

And like everyone else has said, you ultimately have to walk out of there feeling good about about what transpires in your doctors appointments. If she understands and improves awesome!! If not, you keep on walking and find someone that that is knowledgeable and can treat you with kindness and respect :)

Hello!!

I have had a leak and I am going through a lot with the sleeve. I am wanting to find someone who has been down or is currently going down this road. It's rough. I have been reaching out and receiving amazing support from other sleeved friends Dec Sleevers are nothing short of AMAZING!! I think it would be nice chat or text with someone who has been here.

I am really sorry to hear that. I hope you are doing better by now. How did you find out you had a leak if you don't mind me asking?

Hi Sannah. It's Beth from December Sleevers. Just read this entire post. You are so strong. Am curious how your appt. goes? If she treats you the same way I think it's time to move on. There are too many great doctors out there to allow someone to treat you like that, especially with all you have been through. Best of luck today. Hope u r feeling better. Soon this will be a bad memory and you will be feeling great!!! Keep us updated.

I am really sorry to hear that. I hope you are doing better by now. How did you find out you had a leak if you don't mind me asking?

My leak symptoms weren't typical. I had a low and dull back ache. I had one night of chattering jaw and shaking muscles in my back- I was super cold. My body would sweat, like enough sweat that my bedding was wet.

I looked so good when the surgeon saw me, she was convinced I didn't have a leak. She seemed to be in shock I had a leak with how well I looked.

The most important thing to take from this always listen to your body. You know it best and seek help accordingly. It's always better safe than sorry especially with these types of complications. Make sure you advocate for your self. Your gut is a strong indication of what you need to do.

I wish you the best and hope that you never walk down the same road as I.

Hello,

So the surgeon was defensive and apologetic. I was able to express my feelings and concerns about how she treated me. It was a hard conversation. She has a physician assistant (PA) who has been of great help to me. He was present for this conversation as well as my husband.

I surely wouldn't prefer to have surgery with her again. I believe that people deserve a second chance. But I also don't feel comfortable with someone who treats me the way she did. It's a hard place to be.

I am feeling lost and I know I have some thinking to do. The ball is rolling on changing over to another surgeon for all follow up care and potentially having my gallbladder removed.

I still not allowed to eat- maybe in a week or two. I have not been allowed food since dec 4. Yes I am chewing and spitting. The dr knows and so does my counselor. Both said its okay and normal, and just be careful

I was able to get my midline out!! Yay. No more picc or midlines.

My blood pressure is too low

My heart is beating irregularly

I was told my nausea and vomiting should go away in a month. These meds are brutal on my vision. I have transderm scop patch, promethazine-oral and suppository, zofran. A while ago the pharmacist said I can't use zofran because it is messing with the different waves in my heart.

I am going to go see the cardiologist.

I can drive if someone comes with me when I am not on anti nausea meds.

I need to make sure I am approved with another surgeon before jumping ship. This process has already been started.

I also went to counseling after seeing the surgeon I had a longer appointment than normal. Went for 90 mins.

I am finally realizing I am going to be okay. I need to make sure anyone who is involved in my care is supportive and someone I can talk to without judgement.

I'll reply later in depth but I have a meeting to head to so I want to be quick.

Sannah....if your beautiful baby were a young lady and a doctor made her feel stupid what would you tell her to do? I would be surprised to read that you would let her sweat it out and torture herself over it...I think you'd say "darling, no one should make you feel stupid, especially with everything you are going through" wouldn't you?????

You're not my daughter (If you were you'd be dressed up in enough pink and purple tulle and ribbons to make yourself dizzy...but that's a mom of a son's imagination talking...) umm anyhoo, you aren't my daughter so I'll just smack you lightly upside the head and say "Girlfriend, I know you talk to bananas, but you're not stupid! You're just goofy :P and NO ONE should be talking to you as if you are, let alone actually tell you to your face that you are!!!!!!!" NO ONE!!!!

The best move I made was to fire my ever so nice doctor and move on to another doctor. Fresh eyes are so important when you go through such an all consuming medical disaster like this. I don't think you'll regret the move darling and you might just end up being very thankful, as I am, about making that kind of a move!

But don't call them on the banana....they're typically wire tapped :P

((((( <3 )))))

Girl, you know you are my hero-lady! Your strength & grace amazes & inspires me. I hope I just don't cry at the anesthesiologist, much less have to endure this special brand of hell...bc honestly I'm a huge baby. ;)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
