I took 4 weeks off. If you have short term disability, check with them, they may pay you for taking additional time off. I would also suggest doing FMLA. FMLA is a federal law that is made to protect people's jobs in these cases. You should be eligible for FMLA from day 1, from what I know there is no waiting period.

I took four weeks, i also work a desk job. I got state disability, it wasnt much but still better than nothing. I am glad i took the four weeks it really helped, as i was comfortable with my eating and felt pretty good. I am now six weeks out. Good luck!

Good morning. I am having my surgery on the 14th of February which is a Friday and my doctor told me I could return to work that following Monday which is the 18th! But I decided for myself to take off the following week. I guess it just depends on what you can tolerate and your doctor opinion.

Spoke to HR and they said its up to doctor and me. If I'm off more then two weeks then I will qualify for FMLA... I have my surgery next Wednesday and starting my diet as of today. The doctor took me off for two weeks just to help me with the transition period from liquids to soft foods... Good luck everyone!

I gave my FMLA paperwork to the coordinator office for my surgeon. I was curious about short term disability too. I figured since I am only getting 2 weeks off are they really gonna be able to pay me ?!?! and they said yes as long as its required from my Dr to be off.

Good luck

My recommended at least a week, I may have been able to go back after 2weeks. I do outside sales so desk & car sitting would have been too hard on me plus all the walking businesses to businesses. I took 6wks off so I would be all healed up and on regular food to make life a little easier. Went back on Jan 22nd, that week wiped me out! Lol

Most doctors are cool with letting you go back when ever your ready and will give you a return to work for that date.

Oh and yes I used my short term disability.

For some reason I had in my head that because I was young I wouldn't have a hard time bouncing back but boy was I mistaken! I originally took a week off, came back for 2 days, then had to take another week off. But my job is a lot of physical work and I was on a 2 week clear liquid diet so my Protein levels were low and I had no energy. You should probably take at least a week off, Maybe more depending on how physical your job is. Congrats and good luck with your surgery!

Between my surgery day and my first day back at work I had 12 days off and that was enough for me.

My doctor told me the same thing but trust me, you will need at least a good 7 days. I'm having to use my sick days since I didn't prepare in advance with disability. Don't do the same mistake I did.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
