Reconstructive surgery - skin removal

Recommended Posts

Does anyone have any before and after pics of having skin removed? Can you do arms, thighs and tummy at the same time? What have you done for the saggy skin under your chin?

This is my year to have the skin removed ( later near Fall) but need input. What should I look for in a surgeon and what type of questions do I ask?

Almost down 130 lbs ! 20 lbs from my first goal of 190 !!!

Bought my first tanning package this week. Enjoying this smaller size :D

I've been researching a full body lift and think that's the way to go for me, but I'm only 5 months out. Would love to hear of personal results so I can decide (and save up the money) to do it early next year.

How long have you been at goal? My surgeon recommended 12 months at goal b4 skin removal. Really interested in the responses you get.

Im only 6 months out from VSG. I'm 20 pounds away from my first goal...then I would like to set another goal of 30-40 lbs. I wonder if you can do a full body lift all at the same time?

LookingAhead

congrats on your amazing transformation :)

i hear you should wait til you lose ALL the weight you need/want to lose before you have any plastics

things will "firm up" a bit after a year or so

wait til you've lost that last 20 lbs - and a good year later, get the plastics done at that time

its worth the wait, you've done everything else perfectly, waited a long time to lose this weight, wait a little longer to have plastics done right

arms, thighs, tummy at same time??? not sure if doc would want to do that - he might say its way too much to handle for you - the recovery situation ????

this is just what i've heard, but..............???

i will not be having plastics, i wanted a face lift, PS adviced against it :(

he said i could go to another PS that would take my money - but in his opinion - my face has too much elasticity  , surgery wouldn't be very successful

he didn't feel a face lift would work for long

how about that, an honest dr???

he suggested a "lazor package" of 4 individual treatments in his office area. they use some sort of heat "massager" rub it all over your face & neck for over a half hr.

IMO since he adviced against / was very candid/ up front about the face lift situations, i'm strongly thinking about the lazor treatments

to keep up ;) the results, you need to do yearly - but your spending less at a time (I'm 59 - so only have a few good years left so won't have to pay that much  )

success to you on those lasts few lbs

you've done terrific - and i can see B) you are looking great

good luck with plastics in the future :)

I can appreciate waiting the extra time would be / will be frustrating.

I'd imagine that over the 12 months at goal, like proudgrammy said, your skin will firm a little, tone a little and change a little. I'm guessing it's about all this happening up front so you get the best result for the plastic surgery.

Curious...why would a little firmer skin make a difference if it still has to come off? Will it make a difference in $$ or the outcome of how I look? Just curious.

We discussed this yesterday in our support group. The surgeon said if a Dr offerred to do multiple procedures at once,RUN the other way.then another woman said she did have a tt, and a boob job and her underarms and something with her hips all done,at one time, she was in an immense amt of pain, her husband kept her pretty drugged up and did everything for her for about 2 weeks. Even after that for the next few Weeks she realized how little she was able to do,how limited she was. So think very carefully about having multiple procedures done at once

I had a Tummy Tuck when I lost 150 + pounds with diet and exercise in my early 30's. Unfortunately I've put 3/4 of that back on over the last decade or so.

My understanding is you want all your skin to finish changing because of the rapid weight loss. If it hasn't done this it will effect the final result. As you'd imagine joining two pieces of skin that previously had a number of inches of skin removed from in between isn't an exact science and results vary. A bit like VSG surgery, I think it's best to do everything possible to help the surgeon get the best outcome for you.

Good luck with everything,

Deano :)

I am getting a Tummy Tuck, next year. (Boobs too!)

I was advised by my surgeon and plastic surgeon to wait a year at goal weight. I have 13 pounds to go. Also unless your arms are really bad I wouldn't advise. Every person/photo I have seen of a skin removal on the arms the scars have looked 10x as bad as the arm skin ever did.

Not to be disrespectful, but how can you gain the weight back? I'm 6+ months out and still can't eat much. Is it how much you are or what you ate? If you don't mind, I want to learn from your experience.

Thanks,

Angie

Dean didn't lose that 150 with the sleeve, but with diet and exercise. We all know how easy it is to gain it back when you stop with the diet and exercise. ;)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
