Some people here are meanies

Recommended Posts

You make an interesting point. This "people are so mean here" thread popping up kinda often lately.

Anyways....

I'm probably considered one of the mean ones' date=' I just don't take the extra time to sugar coat things. I work in a high pressure professional environment as a financial analyst and I am just a nononsence tell it like it is personality type. My wife actually just reminded me to be sympathetic about something this weekend... I can't remember what it was, I think her sinuses hurt or something. Obviously I failed that one. My son also knows that little Suzie stealing your toy car at school isn't a newsworthy complaint.

I would like to point out that the alternative is that people stop caring.

So next time someone posted that they haven't lost any weight but they just figured how to eat an entire Jack in the Box bacon ultimate cheeseburger if they just took off the top bun and cut it into 16 pieces and at one piece every 15 minutes they got SO much Protein in just 4 hours & they at all the french fries that they thought would make them sick but they didn't! Ok come on, I LOL'd while typing that![/quote']

Haha.... Is jack in the box still around?

I won't name any names but there is a man and a woman that spend hours and hours everyday in the chatroom that are incredibly rude and negative. They chase away people that have different opinions than themselves. They also make very inappropriate sexual comments too. They are constantly in the chatroom and in my opinion ruin it for everyone else. The chatroom is supposed to be for discussing vsg related topics but they never talk about anything related to vsg. They have ruined this site for me. I have never been more bullied in my entire life as I have here. It's sad.

I've never used the chat feature of this site. If it is a problem and you don't want to report the issue, I would suggest sticking with the threads and private messaging anyone that you connect with. You can then avoid the people that upset you and enjoy the resources available.

Chat rooms are not for me. It's like being in a hotel and everybody's intercom is piped into your room.

Ya, I've popped in at times and noticed the sparkin' . Get a room guys, (not chat).

Sometimes I think we share the same brain. Oh God, does that make me a hormonal pregnant woman? I sure hope it's not twins.

I'm pretty sure it just means there was enough awesome going around that we both got an extra dose. :)

And I already have a set of twins and am never doing that again, so let's hope it's not twins or I'll really get hormonal. And mean, of course.

Gosh I hope I don't come across as a meanie. The one person who I thought was a meanie was banned about a week or 2 ago but other than that I usually just stop reading comments that have the potential to ruffle my feathers. I've done enough arguing on birth boards and have zero desire to do that here. I always try to see it as people are entitled to their own opinion and sometimes it's hard to word things nicely. VST is pretty tame compared to other online forums that I've visited. If you want to see some drama or mean people then google "body building misc" and read that forum, those people are crazy! lol

Wait! There's a surgery for that! It's called DS (duodenal switch) and if you're willing to live with a lifetime of supplements and malabsoprtion, you can eat those burgers and pat yourself on the back for it.

It's mean and unsupportive to say, but I always considered the DS the absolute laziest way to do WLS ever...but that's probably an unfair assessment based mostly upon the fact that when I researched it most people were talking about eating bacon cheeseburgers sans bun and how great it was that they could eat whatever they wanted except bread.< /p>

Ugh...getting excited about food and WLS ruins everyone's grammar, even mine!

I'm getting dizzy lol

It's either people are upset with "candy coating" or "meanies"

We need a term for people in the middle and start another thread :P

@edz2129644 I so agree with you and I'm dying laughing at the same damn time. You're going to find nastiness wherever you go. Mine is primarily at work. I ignore it and keep a smile on my face. Remember misery loves company. Don't let a few Detour (did I spell that correctly...Ugh) you from a site you enjoy. When people post a nasty comment, I simply reply back with a syrupy sweet comment or just ignore. I found some nasty comments on a new site I just posted called Bariatric Foodie, but I love the site too much to let it keep me from coming back everyday. Have fun and keep rocking your sleeve Girly!!!!

I don't like it when people are mean to me, and I don't like to be mean to other people...however, different approaches work for different people when it comes to asking for advice or support on this type of public forum. Some people respond to sugar coating, some people respond to a swift kick in the pants. If you read something that does not suit you, you are not under any obligation to agree with it or take it to heart. (just to we are clear, this comment was not intended to come across as mean at all! lol)

Awe, don't leave us Russell! I was involved in a heated 'chat' with an aggressive poster early on in my journey and was chided because I didn't want to 'get into it' on this site, I dont come here to debate, I come for the collective community of Verticle sleeved patients' support and advice and once in a while it's nice to be able to post a response that can also help someone. Some stories are pretty scarey and some advice is pretty hard-knocks, but I'ld like to think everyone means well. P.S. I checked out the chat room once and thought it was a singles match chat room! It really was like 'get a room, already!'-serious "flirting" (and I use that term loosely!) Maybe some of the battle of wits occurring is really some feeble attempts to get attention and maybe find 'mr right' (or right now). Just a thought after reading thread! ;)

It's far person syndrome. "WOH is me. Everyone is mean to me. Cuddle me with rainbows and butterflies."

Don't forget unicorns. LOL!

Where is that logic from? If anyone regarding size can act that way then how is it a certain size related syndrome.

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
