All of my December sleevers...

My hair fell out for a while stopped then started falling out again. I don't like short hair so im not gonna cut it . Hope it stops. I have noticed when I consistently eat 60 or more grams of Protein a day it slows down allot. When I don't it starts to fall out like crazy! I would give up 108 pounds any day for the Hair loss :)

I was already bald-ing before the surgery. Check with the nutritionist of your program. I was told to consume 80 grams protein per day. If you don't your body may break down muscle instead of fat for energy. There are whey powders that have 20grams per scoop. So 2 two scoop shakes per day will get you 80 grams. I also add a scoop to Greek yogurt (which has about 16 g of protein). Watch out for the pre mixed stuff that can have added carbs.

Have many of you cut your hair because of Hair loss? I did I'm so ready for long hair :(

I cut about 6 inches off. I'm ok with it for now and if I weren't I would be out of luck because it doesn't grow fast anymore! Oh I wish my hair would stop falling out :(\

Yup' date=' I cut my hair too. I always had hair fall due to hypothyroidism but at month 4 it was pretty significant so I took the plunge. I really didn't want big gobs of hair everywhere.

Hair is Protein. Try the protein hair treatments that would be used after chemical processing. Like 3 whipped eggs with teaspoon Lemon juice or the over the counter stuff. Add more Liquid Protein to the diet. Use a Protein Shake for some of the between meal liquids.< /p>

Sigh hair...it started falling, stopped, and just in last week or so I noticed more coming out...eeeek.

My update: 8 months out. surgery 12/5 starting weight 242 now 182 and I bounce 2-3 lbs. I've been doing this since mid APRIL. Talk about discouraging. I went from a tight 16 since April to a 14 and sometimes size 12's. I KNOW my body has been changing I see it in the pictures, but I desperately want the scale to love down this last ~40lbs.

I feel like it's hard when day after day, week after week and now month after month my weight has stalled here. I'm only 5'3" and so I need to be at 140ish to be at the higher end of normal (I think).

I feel better. I am WAY more active. I'm more involved in life, but frustrated with this dang scale not moving. Maybe I'm destined at loosing only 60 lbs....*shrugs*

After what seemed like creeping slowly foreeeeeever I just dropped 4 lbs this week putting me at 102 lbs lost. I'm so excited! This comes after a huge burn off 1200 cals at the gym tonight. I'm a tired, content chickadee.

Ok back to the grind...

I'm feeling pretty good also. Weight loss since Surgry may not be as fast as some but since surgery I've lost 87lbs but in the 9 months since I made my mind up and started my journey ice lost 106lbs. Not to shabby.

I am in an epic stall. Uggh. I was losing great, but haven't lost much of anything for a month. I'm not losing sizes, either. I am praying this isn't it for me....I still have so far to go. I started a new job at the same time my weight loss slowed/stopped. I am sure it's stress related, though I've not been eating more. I think I need to change something up to get it moving again...but I'm a believer that as long as you are doing the right thing, the weight will come off. However, when the weight stopped coming off, I'm finding it more and more difficult to be motivated and stay on track. On a positive note, I do feel and look so much better, so I love that. I can shop in normal clothes sizes now, and I can move so much better. I no longer have 100 pounds of morbid obesity limiting my life, and I'm so happy about that. Just wish I could get the rest off now!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
