MiDoctor Hospital (any surgeon!) 2013 Roll Call!

Thought we could do a roll call for upcoming 2013 surgeries at MiDoctor Hospital in TJ. I figured it could help us link up while we are in TJ. I am with Dr. Garcia on 1/22 and will arrive at the Marriott on 1/21. I'm going through Ready 4 a Change. Also if any past patients want to chime in, I'm sure we'd all love to hear about your progress!

If I could do this over' date=' I would add one extra day at the hotel after the surgery. I'm feeling a bit lousy and would love an extra day before getting on an airplane.

By lousy I mean headache, bloated hands and feet, achey belly. Very hard to sleep. Like mild case of the flu. My surgery was 3 days ago.

Ps I've taken nearly a full box of Gas-X Strips in last 18 hours.

I understand they give you a lot of IV fluids which is prob why your hands and feet feel bloated. I hear the gas is a pain, walking will help alleviate some of these issues. I pray you have a safe trip back. Congrats again

I booked 2 extra days in San Diego after just to be safe. If i feel up to it might even check out Sea World

Humm I truly never thought of this......I def would suck having to fly while feeling lousy

How long are you staying after your surgery?!?! If I go to Dr. Garcia I want to do the same as you (have surgery the same day I fly in)....Alma told me this was an option!!!

Dr. Ponce does his surgeries like that (same day you fly in).....Too bad I can't make up my mind who to go with Garcia or Ponce!?!?! Decisions decisions....sighhhhhh

From 2/27. - 3/3

Off work for 2weeks

FWIW, I'm feeling better and better. So the extra day might not be necessary. Amazing how much improvement in just a few hours.

Hey Peppy234, my wife and I will be picked up at 11am on the 16 when we check out of the hotel in San Diego. We'll see you at the hospital.

So things recently changed with my husbands insurance at his job and when I reviewed the plans, it said Bariatric surgery was a covered benefit. I was hoping, in a last ditch effort that I could have surgery in the states and not leave home for that long (and save myself some $$$) but when I called my insurance about it, they said it was a mistake in the plan and it was NOT a covered benefit. So Mexico...here I come! I guess on the bright side, I get to keep my new Samantha Brown luggage set! :)

Hey shrinksthinks! I will see you there! I arrive in San Diego on the 17th and have my surgery with Dr Garcia on the 18th! So I will for sure see you in the hospital!

Lets stay in touch! Woohoo 6 more weeks!!!!!

I really don't know anything about Jerusalem hospital but Mi hospital seems to be wonderful and everybody seems to just love it. I do know they also have an ICU. I haven't seen a lot about Jerusalem hospital on this forum. However, I have seen many many many people that has commented on how great MI hospital is/was. If you choose MI hospital you also get to stay in the Marriott Hotel 1 day before and 2 days after your surgery. I'm not sure but I think I read if you choose Jerusalem hospital you go to a recovery house with many other people after your surgery. Good luck and hope this helps.

Mi Doctor is a fully functioning hospital. Jerusalem is a clinic in a strip mall. I have a high BMI which increases the risk so I felt more comfortable with a hospital. Also, Dr. Almanza st Jerusalem does the lowest BMI 1st so you may be towards the end of the line. There has been some recent controversy as to how many surgeries he does a day. Reports of 8+ have been made. I do not know from experience. Good luck and whichever direction you go I wish you a safe and successful surgery/recovery.

Hey Kari! You posted in a great place :). This particular thread is all of he people who have gone or are going to MiDoctor Hospital this year. You may want to use he "search" feature at the top of this page and also at ObesityHelp.com to search for Dr. Almanza. Select "forums" for search location and you should pull up lots of info. I chose Dr. Garcia because of his incredibly low complication rates (much lower than my even my local. Surgeon). I admittedly had a very had time choosing between him, Dr. Aceves and Dr. G Alvarez, who are all VERY good.

The only info I can offer on Dr. Almanza is that the original coordinating company I was using (Successfully Slimmer) said that they were no longer using him/recommending him because he is trying to do too many surgeries per day (5+) and that is 7 days a week. However, I know there are also a lot of positive stories about him as well. Just DO YOUR RESEARCH. This is crucial when planning ANY surgery either domestic or abroad. You can check back here around 1/23 for my own personal account which I fully intend on posting :). Hope this helps!
