I was really nervous too! It's gets pretty easy after the third day. You get over the carb headache and aren't hungry as long as you stay loaded up with your Protein. Good luck!

I'm going home today. The stay at the hospital has not been pleasant. Never really got restful sleep. And the complications w swallowing made things a bit miserable. I'm off the iv. Its all up to me and that's helped push additional liquids. I'm a little light headed and when I get home I'm allowed to have some Water w juice. Really looking forward to having something other than this to occupy my attention. I'm in the what was I thinking stage. I'm sure it will pass. Thanks for the prayers. They worked.

Keep us posted im sure this time.next.week youl be in the hello new life stage..

I was sleeved on Feb 1st and on Feb 4th I was in the ER... Chest pains and could barely breathe. After EKG and X-ray my surgeon admitted me. I was told I have Pericarditis, I was not discharged until Feb 7th @ 9pm... I still have some chest pain and the cardiologist said no exercise for 2 weeks. I'm trying to stay positive but it's hard, I feel like this is holding me back.

Hey guys!! I got my sleeve done on Monday, February 4th, 2013. It feels good so far. I went to Mexico and had it done with Dr. jaime Ponce de leon. He's simply amazing...and I only found him because of Trish, my surgery coordinator...who happens to be my backbone throughout this experience! So far everything is new and im trying to take day by day. I am already back home in Jersey. Im sure I will have a lot of questions, so being here with you guys sharing the same experience means a lot to me! :)

I'm on day 5. My children have found other places to be tonight, I'm thinking that's not by accident. :) Everything irritates me, I even irritate myself for being snippy. I feel like I'm just a ball of nerves. I've decided I need to just stay away from people until I have surgery. I'd get away from myself if I could. LOL. I hate feeling like this, but I can't seem to help it. Just a couple more days. So ready!

Gee I have insurance and I've already paid my 640.00 deductible and had to pay the hospital1500.00 my 20 percent. I don't know why I thought this was going to be 2000.00 without insurance!

It might be something w the deductible and max out of pocket. I have Aetna. $1000 deductible and $2500 max out of pocket. I was told to add them together to get the max I pay. Since I already had a few expenses that qualified as my deductible, I'm expecting somewhere around $3000 total. Now. If the bill comes and I'm in for more. I'm not going to be happy and they're getting a phone call.

Im with u on that juny!

This hospital stay has been hell... the facility and nurses have been nice but between the throwing up and hiccups and gas, im through.

Throwing up feels like death. Stuff rpearranging and me scared my stomach is going to rip open! Not likely but it could happen. They say its the mucus. I spit up bile earlier. Heating pad saved the day.

Been walking every 2 hours. 2 times around..

I my name is Palmer and I had the procedure Feb 5, 2013. It was the best decision I made. The doctor found two additional critical health issues that needed to be corrected while he was doing the procedure. I would have never known about the health issues without the procedure and the contributing factor was my obesity. I am so glad I made the decision to have the surgery.

Yep feeling my new stomach flop around violently scared the bejeesus out of me. I think its why I keep taking the nausea meds. Not because I am but I need the tummy to be as quiet as possible just to ease my mind.

Walkings been ok. The spirometer they gave me is under used but I'm trying. I can't do everything perfect. Water is the #1 priority for me. I also had a fair amount of foaming for a couple days as well.

Having a hard time w people eating tacos when I'm trying to negotiate a quarter cup of broth.

Really wish I had been one of those that just bounced back from surgery.

Okay so here goes. Surgery went awesome! I was up and out of my hospital bed by 7 o'clock that evening. I had a good walk around the hospital floor. And wasn't in a town of pain that night. Getting woken up for blood sugar readings every hour got very old and made it hard to get a good nights sleep since I'm a type One diabetic but all seemed to be going well. Then the drain that they had in my side started to irritate the end my insides and cause me to feel like I was having lots of gas pain and soreness and my catheter was really irritating the end of my penis causing it to be harder to walk so I requested that the catheter be taken out and they actually took that out the next day. Sauron day two and day three I walked over 4 1/2 miles just trying to get the exercise in and really didn't run into any problems unseal the third day morning when I stood up to walk out of bed and my calves were super super tight. Seems that I was sleeping in my bed with my feet straight up-and-down because the bed was too short for the length of my body. Being 6' 3" made it difficult for them to find a bed that was long enough and comfortable for me. That caused me to have some serious sleep issues being able to get comfortable. When I went home on Friday I felt great. Was home Friday night and felt tired and then Saturday relaxed and went out for dinner and time with family space and then walking with family through target. Having very very very many doubts about whether I should of had the surgery or not. As I'm watching other people eat in restaurants and me struggling taking down Soup knowing that I'd much rather be having that burrito or those nachos or that cheeseburger that Fried chicken. I miss eating the foods I don't know if I'm not feeling hungry because I'm testing my body or if it's because I see those foods I definitely don't have any of the full symptoms and it makes me worry that I'm going to go right back into my over eating habits just need help.

It's really hard to have complications especially when everyone else seems to breeze right through it! I had my surgery on the 6th and I am still in the hospital because of a pulmonary embolism but I am hoping to get out around Monday. You just have to remember its just a little glitch in your plan and even though you can't work out the way you want for two weeks you will still be losing weight because of the diet! Hey maybe you might even bypass your stall because you will be adding more exercise later on!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
