I keep seeing everyone talk about a pre-op diet. I wasn't told I had to do this. My meeting with the nutritionist and my final meeting with the surgeon is on the 29th and my surgery is on the 3rd that's only 5 days. Was anyone else not told about a pre-op diet?

I see the doctor on the 19th wondering do I have to pick a surgery date then? Or wait until the approval come back from the insurance?

Morten, I would call your doc tomorrow and check to be sure.

Jackie, depends on your office. Some will schedule, some will wait for approval.

I have the same date as you. I don't have a pre-op diet either. I am to have a small Breakfast and nothing after that the day before surgery.

Got my surgery date finally so very blessed and happy but it's bitter sweet, can't do it till dec 10th. I'm heart broken because doctor had told me that I would be able to do it by thanksgiving and his nurse just said he doesn't know what he has going on.

Also means instead of being almost healed by Christmas that I'm gonna be really sore still

I'm happy to have the date but I'm also bawling because he had my hopes up for this month.

I asked her if she can see if she has any cancelations or anything they can do because all the time I saved up for surgery expires the 21st of December :(

Yeah, I'm praying she actually checks to see if she can get me in this month. She said shed call the OR and check but not to get my hopes up

Dec.11 for me. 2 week liquid diet Monday after Thanksgiving. I think it will be liquids on Christmas too but that's ok. All the new clothes under the tree next year will be worth much more than food - it will mean I am healthier and in control of my destiny.

Hello to all. My surgery date is dec. 19! I'm so excited but also a ball of nervous. I went to see the specialist on oct. 11 did my NUT the same day. Went to see the Psy on oct. 23. Had EDG done on the oct. 29 was approve by 11/1. Everything went so smoothly. I am 5' 7'' 265 bmi 41 looking forward to getting my energy back. Plus looking forward to getting out of plus size cloths. Thankful for everyone's stories because some days I feel a little crazy. Plus I have some bad habits. I love sugar . I'm a real addicted to sugar. Can anyone give me some ideas about how to get over this. I don't want this to continue once I am on the other side.

I am 12/12/12 too!!! Don't get to worried about it... I was getting myself all worked up about it and then my approval came in less then a week! I am so excited now... I feel like it is getting so close and with Thanksgiving being only 2 weeks away then we will start all of our Christmas prep so I am hoping the next month goes by fast. I have all my pre-op testing on 11/15 and my EGD on 11/20... I am suppossed to start my pre-op diet a week before my SX date but I think I am going to start it sooner.

I didn't have to do and EGD. My pre-op testing is on Dec 6. I think I'm going to start my liquid diet on Dec 2 to give myself a couple of buffer days.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
