November Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Misty--I'm glad you are feeling better--how scary! I am going in for a fill on Monday--I just feel like I am able to eat way too much, and I am getting hungry a lot. This will be my 4th fill, so maybe this will be the one that gets me to that sweet spot. Well, our expected blizzard didn't amount to much--the storm tracked much further south than expected, so my husband made it home just fine. He is only home every other weekend because of his job, so he really notices my weight loss when he comes home. He is constantly complimenting me, but for some reason, I am still uncomfortable with it. I guess eventually I will get used to it, but it's still a little weird for me now. Is that totally strange?

It has been quiet. I got my second fill last Saturday. I wanted to ask you guys if you get a headache the evening of the day you get a fill? I think mine is partly because of the anxiety I feel going to get the needle. My first fill I passed out from the needle and then started throwing up after I came too. This time it was quick and easy but I still had a really bad headache that evening. I am still very hungry which I am bummed out about because the hunger is just not going away and it is driving mad. I am going to have to get some appitite suppressents from the Vitamin store to help me now want to graze all day. What do you guys suggest? Thanks

I'm going through some grazing now too. Yours may be becasue you don't have enough of a fill yet...don't know. Mine feels more like it's the old issues coming back. Eating when triggered by TV mostly, and mostly in the afternoon. I'm going to be doing my exercise in the afternoon and see if I can break the pattern. I swore when I got banded I'd never do appetite suppressants again! My experience is that the OTC ones don't work, and the prescription ones work great and then stop working and the weight comes back.

Overall, I'm doing well, but this recurrence of grazing is pretty annoying!

I love the throw up smiley!!! I did that with squash that I thought was mushed up enough. No, just stringy.................Ouch. Now you will probably swell so go to liquids for 24 hrs.

Vikki--I have never gotten a headache from getting a fill. I just got one Monday, and I definately feel more restriction. I was grazing before my fill too. I think a lot of that is emotional, too. I always ate out of boredom, or snacked while watching tv. It's hard to eat only when you're hungry! If you are still feeling really hungry, maybe you should get a litle more of a fill. Is your doctor good about that, or does he give you a hard time? Mine is great about fills--he always says come back right away if that doesn't do it. But, I have also heard other people say it takes a week or two for a fill to kick in, but my doc says you should feel it right away. Everyone is different though. Did anyone watch American Idol last night? Enough already--I hope Sanjaya goes home tonight, but he probably won't, even though he was HORRIBLE last night:yuck:

I am not sure why when I get a fill I get a headache. I guess it is from being scared before? Anxiety? Who knows. I do feel I need more of a fill but my Dr. is in Mexico 2 1/2 hours away and it my all day to go in and then come back out and drive home. I will just have to bump up the self control and just be good!!! I am the most hungry at night. Connie- Your weight loss is great!!! 66pounds..........I would love to be at 60 pounds but am struggling with a platau I am at right now!! My body is as stubborn as I am.........UGGGG!!!! I hope that America does the right thing last night and stopped making the show a joke!! Sanjaya needs to GO HOME!!!!!!!!!! I am so over him!!!!! I can see him being a famous hairdresser in Hollywood after this. He seems right at home in Hollywood.

How's everybody doing with exercise? just when I think it's become a habit, I hide out again. It's strange. I'm always glad when I go, but I sure can talk myself out of going!

Prbrooksie--Congrats! You are doing great! I can really tell a difference!;)

Thanks...it's just so slow that's why I had to take pictures to remind myself that I have lost some.

You need to take pictures. You've lost a lot and we would love to see your changes.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
