I do need to take pics. It's so hard for me to see but everyone tells me they can see a huge change. I have always hated getting my picture taken but that should be getting better. :biggrin1: Maybe I can get dh to take them this evening or sometime this weekend. I'll get some taken soon.

I think I will go find some pics and figurre out how to post them. That is a great idea. Thanks for sharing.

So, I definitely don't feel I need a fill. I do throw up often enough and have difficulty eating quite often. However, when I do eat, I CAN EAT!. I don't know where the food possibly goes. Is this possible?

BetsyJane--As far as exercise goes--I cannot believe I have become a total gym rat! I am going everyday on my lunch hour and doing the 30 minute circuit, and on Monday nights I do Water aerobics, and on Wednesday nights I get on the treadmill while my daughter is at volleyball practice. Then, on the weekends, I try to do the circuit at least one day on the weekend, and sometime I take my daughter to the Y and she swims, and I workout. I'm completely addicted.. I just signed up for 6 sessions with the personal trainer at my gym, too cuz I want to really work on my strength training, and hopefully get rid of my bat wings!. It helps that I get 2 hours for lunch, so I can always make time to go. I've surprised even myself though.

So, Hooray--Sanjaya is finally gone!! I heard on the radio the other day that he has obtained the rights to Michael Jackson's Thriller, and is going to re-make it for the 20th anniversary--how scary is that? I hope that is not true!

PRBrooksie--you are looking great--you really can see a difference! Keep up the good work!

OK, I'm now 2 pounds away from my original goal (225) but the doctor and I revised that to 210, so 17 pounds away. Problem is that in spite of the fact that I'm down 10" in waist, when I look in the mirror, I don't see a big difference so definitely feel I need to go to at least 210. (I am 6'3".) Most of my co-workers, my ex-wife and a few close friends all tell me I'm too skinny now. The last thing I want to be is gaunt and not look healthy but enough people are saying it does make me stop and think. Are they saying it because they're use to the "fat" me and I'm not that bad or am I approaching the "too skinny" point? (Yeah, I know. All the years of people calling me fat and now I'm concerned they call me skinny. Guess I'm never happy!) My tentative plan is to get to around 220 and then kind of hold for my body to adjust. Of course, I don't go back to the doctor until mid-May for my 6 month checkup so not sure how I'll stop losing without having some fill taken out.

I am going to the gym twice a week (more or less) and am starting to notice some definition in the arms and legs although there is plenty of flab still left. :think Still don't like it but make myself do it.

The other issue I'm having is that I think the Calcium supplement is causing inflammation that causes too much restriction. I started having problems after doing great with 2.5 cc in the band right after I switched Vitamins and started on the calcium. They took out .5 cc and had me go off of both for a week, add the Vitamin alone for a week and then add the calcium. Last week was much better on just the vitamin but this week has been more of a struggle since adding back in the calcium. Guess I'm going to go back off and just try to make calcium and see how it goes. Anyone else notice any problem with taking calcium?

Tom- That is one of my biggest pet peaves. I am about 45 lbs away from where I want to be (which by the way is about 10 lbs more than what my surgeons want and 5 less than what my reg. physician wants) and people always say things like, "You aren't going to loose anymore are you?" "Where are you going to loose it" "You will be way too thin" , etc, etc, etc.

I, like you, think it is because they are used to the fat me and/or they don't want to feel bad about themselves if I get thinner/more fit than them. I only hear those comments from women. Go with your gut (no pun intended). If you get to 220 and feel like you need to loose more and your doctor feels you should, go for it. You need to feel good about you. Ask someone you trust and know well be honest if you want feed back and don't worry about the others. I think your doing great.

Thanks llitltweety. Last time I was at the surgeon, he called me skinny. I first of all discounted it as it did come from people I'm close to. Now, even casual acquaintances say I should lose more so I'm starting to think they may know something I don't. Of course, they (or at least most of them <G>) haven't seen me without clothes! My ex did see me in my workout shorts and mentioned my legs were not only very white but definitely needed toned. It started with a very good friend telling me I didn't need to lose anymore but they weren't happy I had the surgery to begin with so I just discounted that opinion. Even my son, who typically says nothing personal, said I'm skinny. (My 210 idea came from the fact that's what he weighs and he's just a bit shorter than I am and I think he's a good weight - enough to him he looks healthy but not at all chubby.)

I hear ya! I so know what you are feeling. It all can be a bit confusing. I have to admit it is good (strange way to put it) to hear someone else getting same feedback as me. And your right, they don't see you with your clothes off. I see my belly and the extra weight above my butt. They look at it all covered. We do need to tone, but our skin needs time to catch up to our quickly reducing bodies. It took a long time to get that big, it takes time for it to snap back. (Hopefully without surgery, but I'm not opposed to that either if I need it in the future.)

Ok Tom, maybe you should post a picture, so we can see just how skinny you are! I agree that you need to do what you are comfortable with. No one else can tell you what you should weigh--it's all about you being comfortable and happy with yourself. I do think that going to the gym and toning up will help--it makes a big differnece in how our skin fits our bodies i guess. Isn't it weird for people to call you skinny though? I am no where near my goal, but people have been saying that I'm sure getting skinny. I feel far from skinny! Skinnier, yes, skinny, no! I'm serious about the picture, though--I'm sure we'd all like to see how great you look(with clothes on, of course!):)

I remember before when I lost weight, people close to me started saying I was getting too thin when I wasn't at my goal weight. I think change is hard for everybody, and those close to us have to adjust out of their comfort level. We're not our old predictable selves anymore. I'd probably take their recommendations in stride and go for something more objective.

I am never able to judge my own weight. I have no idea when I'm thin. I can see it in pictures, though. Get yourself a good before pic, and some current pics and just sit and look at them. Then you decide.

Tom,

Yes a picture please!!! We have been begging for months!!!!!!!!! :) By the way...since this month my weight loss has really slowed down and I will need a fill SOON...plus I had gained from my trip and did lose it again...anyway by slowing down my body has been adjusting and the skin is looking much better...it is not saggins so much and it feels softer.... walking has helped of course, oh and good lotion...shea butter.

I am in the midst of my son's wedding...the rehearsal dinner was last night and I pB"D BIG time!!! I tought I was wide open...but I guess the stress, especially sitting with the ex and his wife was just too much for my band! I had the worst PB yet to my history...I actually ended up throwing up ALL of dinner...sorry about the picture...but that had not happened to me yet...but it was an hour of pain and running to the bathroom every 5 minutes and not being able to explain!!!!!!!!!! Oh well...it is mushies and liquids today!

Who can explain how to post a picture on the site to us so we can all find some pictures of us last summer and take a picture today. Angela and I are going to meet for brunch on Sunday since she is near me for her son's wedding. I will bring my digital so I can post a picture of us. I will try to find a before and take a current. I know that I have gotten a lot of comments on how my face looks thinner. I think that is from being off of the carbs I used to eat. I ate bread all day long with every meal. I hope that all of you have a great weekend. It is actually raining here in Souther Calif. and we need the rain bad!!!

OK...this is how I did it...

First save your picture as a jpg document. If you can resize so that they are not huges it is better. The way to do that would depend on your camera software.

Ex got custody of the digital camera and I've not yet broken down to get one. I'll see what I can do. I'm just your average, middle-aged, balding, not-quite-as-overweight guy.

People I don't know well are telling me I'm getting too skinny which is why I guess it's hitting home. I expect those that I'm close with to be more comfortable with the "old" me but when people I only see off and on comment about how skinny and think I've lost too much, I start to wonder. I go to the surgeon mid-May so really can't do much to slow the weight loss between now and then. At my current rate, I'll be within 10 pounds of the adjusted goal anyway.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
