Well good luck on getting your approval and date. Today I was at the hospital from 6:30am to 1:30 pm. I had to get bloodwork, EKG, X-rays, upper GI, and two different classes. One was a nutrition course and the other covered the hospital stay and surgery. It was very long but informative. Only one more appt left with the surgeon next wed on the 31st then surgery on the 6th! Yay. 2 more weeks!

Is it the insurance company that requires all these tests for the surgeons?

Yeah waiting is the worst!! I started this whole process in may and my surgery won't be till January.... some testing is required my.the drs office and some testes are insurance requirements.... I think it just depends on the drs/insurance.preference. I have had just about ever test done to me along with a 6 month supervised diet.... I had the ekg, egd, sleep study, went to a cardiologist, a pulmonary specialist, tonssss of bloodwork and now all I have left is a physch evaluation, support group meeting and a postop diet meeting.

Yes. If you're self-pay, surgeons don't require MOST of it. They do require some of it because it is needed for the procedure itself.

Docotors are regulated by Insurance companies who are are regulated by other entities. Self-pay is cheaper than insurance. Look at the billing from the insurance company. It is insanely high because of negotiated rates and maximum allowed the ins. will pay the surgeon. The surgeon will actually clear close to the self-pay amount, if not less.

For example, a friend and I both went to the same surgeon, same day 15 mins apart. I was self pay and she used her insurance. Her insurance was billed 675 and I paid 32. I even had to drink some dye so they could watch it and she did not.

My insurance just called me and told me that all I have to pay is a $200 copay and everything else is covered 100%.

The insurance woman told me I have to do 6 months dietitian, have a bmi over 40, and do a psych evaluation...

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
