I ate whatever I wanted and was full but it wasn't like before when I just ate and ate. I got on the scale this afternoon and was down to 199. I had a goal of being less than 200 by Christmas and had gotten a little discouraged because I went down to 200.4 and then back up to 202 and then I realized that I was a little constipated' date=' took some Miralax and didn't get on the scale again for about 4 days and since I have been eating whatever I felt like but not near as much, I was surprised when I found out I was down to 199.0 - finally.[/quote']

Isn't it awesome!!!! Even when u fall a little you don't lose control! I have had this happen to me too and it makes the sleeve so worth it!! Congrats to u!!

I'm trying to think of a new short-term goal. I guess I will just make it 190 lbs.

Something else that has been happening. My knees have improved quite a bit. They still hurt after a while but now I can go to Walgreens or other smaller store and my knees don't hurt much. I used to have to grab a shopping cart to lean on and now I don't need to. I used to go to Walmart or Kroger because they have an electric cart. Sometimes I still use the cart if I'm tired or if I am doing a lot of shopping and going to go all around the whole store and "window shop" but if I'm just going to get one or two things near the front of the store I just walk there and back to the register.

I am also being able to do more housekeeping lately. I took everything out of the cabinets and scrubbed them all down and then sprayed for bugs. I'm still working on the kitchen. I'm not putting anything back if I don't use it. I bought new stainless steel cookware and am throwing out all my old worn non-stick cookware. And I have a cast Iron griddle/grill and a cast iron skillet. That is going back. And I'm going to get some glass storage containers.

I struggled with sweets especially over the holidays. If I ate something sweet it just made it worse. Now that I am back home it is easier. I make sure to get in my Protein and stay away from the sweets. I don't seem to be craving them as much.

Looks like you are doing awesome!! Great loss :)

UPDATE

Surgery date 9-17-12

Weight before pre op diet (and heaviest weight): 430

Weight day of surgery: 415

Weight 1-6-13: 326 (I need to update my tracker)

Total lost: 104

I'm really stoked about my weight loss! I have had to deal with some stalls for a few weeks here and there, but the weight eventually drops. I have really only been walking 2 times and week though this week I'm starting a weight training program. I have been avoiding most sweets and carbonated drinks, but really I'm eating all the foods I was eating before but in much smaller portions. Also I'm happy that I don't have the lactose intolerance that some VSG patients can end up with. My goal is to be under 300 lbs by my birthday in March! I wish everyone else the best of luck!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
