I am now three days post op. (Former band patient that eroded, band removed last March). Was in the hospital two days. I'm sore, mostly in my lower back (probably from laying down so much) and my large incision (where they removed my stomach) really hurts when I move the wrong way. I was able to start yogurt and applesauce today along with my non-calorie fluids and Protein Shakes. Those seem to be going down well. I can eat about an ounce at a time right now. I'm not hungry at all. Some things taste a little different but not horrible. (My vanilla shake tasted more like coconut). I was able to get a shower today which really helped! I still get tired easily. I get up and do something then go sit for a while. Struggling to get the fluids and Protein in but I was terrible at hydrating myself pre-surgery. I weighed a couple of lbs more when I came home from the hospital but that has disappeared and I've dropped a lb. I'm hoping to be a little stronger tomorrow. Besides the initial discomfort, so far so good. Ready to get back to normal!

My doctor has me on liquids only for two more weeks. Went for a ride in the car with my husband today. It felt good to get out but the bumps were a bit tricky!

My surgery day is the 28th also! I start my one week pre op liquid diet on Monday. That has me more stressed than anything because I still have to work and lead a normal life with no actual food PRIOR to surgery.

Aim was really nervous about the pre-op liquid diet too but it does get easier after the first few days. I lived on Vitamin Water because it kept me hydrated and the Vitamins helped combat the weakness associated with not eating. Good luck!

Don't forget to start your Vitamin schedule! That's worse than all the liquid!

Surgery postponed!! Can't seem to get a reply from the insurance company ohh my gosh! I was supposed to be sleeved on Tuesday, January 15th and here I still sit on Thursday, January 17th. Since then I thought all was going to be good. During this journey I have been diagnosed with sleep apnea, anxiety, arthritis, hiatal hernia and chronic gastritis besides high blood pressure and a BMI of 42... I thought, all the making of a quick approval but apparently not. I've been told by the doctor again maybe next week.. Monday they say by Thursday and now yesterday they said maybe next week ughh. Aetna Ins.

Until then I am still on my Protein Shakes doctor said that I could have a little bit of vegetables green... I was so frustrated that by the time I got off work at 5 I went to my mother's and I ate a small salad with lettuce tomatoes onions and garlic sprinkled with a vinegarette... And 1 cup of fat free chicken broth.. And 2 cup reg chicken broth . Yes I ate all of that Yesterday only.... After drinking 3 of my Protein Shake earlier that day ... Today back to Protein shake and Water and Jello. Uggh... I started all liquid diet January 2nd 2013 at 221down and since a week ago til..today...208lbs. I seem to have been at a standstill for the past week anyway. Uggh! NJ HERE.

My surgery is this Monday. Only four days away!! I am really nervous. I have been on my Pre op diet for two and a half weeks. It's been challenging but I found a brand of shakes that I really like.

My surgeon is dr brancatisano is Sydney Australia. He is the best apparently.

Anyway wish me luck

I so agree with the post that Vitamins are harder to manage than keeping up with liquids! I can remind myself to take sips, but I am taking so many vitamins, and some have to be taken with food, that I have started carrying them around with me in a snack bag and parsing them out over th course of the day.

Breakfast 2 Flintstones Complete Multivitamins chewables

Mid-morning 1 Vitimin D3 and medicine tab

lunch 2 calcium citrate chewables

dinner 2 Calcium Citrate chewables

Met with nutritionist today (NUT) and she says I forgot to add B12!

At least that one goes under my tongue and not in my tummy!

I was sleeved on January 14, 2013 ! No regrets but it has been difficult. Wasn't discharged until Friday due to bleeding issues. This is the first day able to take micro-sips of fluids without significant pain. Very concerned with staying hydrated.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
