Issues Three Days Post Op.

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on august 29th and I've having a hard time gettin in my liquids. I only got 22oz today.

My belly is growling insanly! I think I'm pregnant with triplets or something and they are fighting! Sipping feels uncomfortable everything kinda sticks in my chest for a few minutes then works down. Gas pain or air is still an issue too. I wanna burp but can't it hurts! Chest pressure sucks!

Are all these common?? Should I be freaking out??

Yeah, I got sleeved on 8.23 and I sipped stuff knowing I was far from drinking enough fluids. My stomach growled too. I didn't have burps but I had stomach pains....I guess from gas but it eventually stopped; I took GasX. I am able to drink more fluids without issue now. Hopefully it gets better the next few days.

I had the same trouble getting in my liquids. I found it easier to suck on the sugar-free Popsicles, like just little bits of liquids constantly going in. It's so important to walk around as much as you can to move the extra gas out. Also be sure you do not use a straw-you'll only be swallowing extra air, which means pain. Hang in there. It gets easier!!

I was sleeved on 8/20. And i know exactly how u feel because i had a hard time too. Water was the worst for me. Try changing the temp of your water. For me the colder the water was....the better. Then i started adding crystal light and that helped me get my fluids in. I am still struggling to get to the full 64 oz but i add in 1 sugar free popsicle and 1/2 a cup of sugar free Jello a day and those help my fill the liquids gap.

I've been living on Gas-x since being sleeved. It helps me a lot. Also, today, I started Prilosec.

Another thing - I'm really bad with structure. I haven't been keeping track of my ounces of fluids. I'm just truing to get in as much as possible.

One trick the bariatric coordinator at the hospital gave me really helped. She gave me a stack of those plastic medicine cups (one ounce) and told me to fill it up and drink from it. I made tick marks on a pad every time I drank one until I had at least 60. It really helped me learn how to gauge how much Water I was taking in (too much at a time can hurt!) I was really cautious, so I found in the first week that four sips equaled one ounce.

Have patience, keep sipping and you'll hit goal soon. Good luck!

I was sleeved on the 28th. Finally I got some relief last night but my belly is still distended. I walk every hour and take gas ex. And I set an alarm on my phone for every 10 mins to remind me to sip or every commercial on tv.

I also had the same issues when I was fresh out of surgery. I took Gas-X pre-op and post-op and it really helped. Keep sipping away and walking and you'll be fine, I promise. What you're experiencing is perfectly normal and it will get better. I'm a little over 3 weeks post-op now and have no pain, except for some heartburn. I walk, on average, 5 miles everyday and I noticed the more I drink, walk and get my 60-80 grams of Protein in, the more energy I have. I was so drained the first 2 weeks.

Wishing you a great recovery!

I was sleeved just a day before you!!!! All this is super normal. I felt the same thing. Since yesterday(3rd) day I'm able to drink Water normally. And finally passes gas which was killing me. Don't freak out!!! You'll be fine. Good luck

22 oz isn't so bad. You will be able to take in more each day and the pain when drinking will go away in the next few days. Try to walk around a bit every few hours. It truly does help.

I was sleeved on 8.29 and am just coming home from hospital today. I gained 20 lbs!!! I was on IVs the whole time, but still.

I have been walking but my stomach feels so sore, I can't even stand up straight.

No complications or anything but dang it, my stomach hurts!!

I was sleeved on the 28th & today has been the first good day! Was having trouble getting fluids in, the sugar-free Popsicles are good but I wanted something hot. Tried beef & turkey broth--yuck. Just now tried Hot & Sour Soup strained (I'm still on clear liquids) and it was wonderful! No problem with the acidity or spice. Will try strained egg drop soup next. I am getting Protein thru Isopure.< /p>

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
