Macho Cheese Doritos

Recommended Posts

I don't plan on eating chips anytime soon BUT if i find a Dorito in front of me i might not be strong enough to not lick it... just sayin =)

I've thought the same thing about quite a few things.. Fried chicken, donuts, steak.. *couldn't I just lick it.. Hehe. We are just human. Doritos fall under the solid food category, which was recommended @ 6-8weeks post-op, as tolerated. I'm 4 weeks out & @ a very cautious mushy/soft food phase. Mostly, I'm concentrating on changing my habits/choices, & working on dealing w/my life instead of eating it away. Food as fuel is what I'm hoping for w/my sleeve experience. Good luck! :)

First of all, "advise" is a verb. I think you meant to use the word "advice". But I can charitably overlook your 4th grade spelling mistakes.

Second, who is mocking whom? I see no mocking here. I gave my advice, yes A-D-V-I-C-E, to the person who started this post about Doritos...what else do you want from us? Did you expect us to tell him, yes by all means, chow down on Doritos? In fact, I believe someone did!

Seriously, where do you get off judging us, and misjudging us for having a little witty fun? There are so many serious, and frankly depressing, discussions on here...why don't you go find one of those to unload your screed. And I'm embarrassed for you. You come on here and tell us we're being judgmental just because we were amused by the imagery of ALL our posts on here? Are you the president of People Against Fun? Concerned Women of America? Pearl Clutchers With Shocked Faces?

Damn, now I really should post the picture of my ass in chaps. Go lick your cheese puffs somewhere else.

I LOVE THIS RESPONSE!

Yes, this is a place for sharing, venting, questions, cheerleading, etc. But it is also a place for realistic responses and A-D-V-I-C-E. I agree we might all have a weak moment and eat a "bad" food. Then we get over it, and keep it moving. When you ASK FOR ADVICE...BE PREPARED FOR THE TRUTH! I, for one refuse to enable people here, and talk to them like they are children. We're adults who have made an adult decision to get healthy. Sorry, Nacho cheese Doritos don't qualify as a healthy alternative.

BTW: I want to see those chaps! LMAO!!!!

As my grandfather would say, "You'll never get permission to do something wrong. It's far easier to get forgiveness."

I'm not saying the Doritos guy was asking permission...but the principle still seems to apply.

And would it be a violation of the forum rules to actually post a picture of my ass in chaps? I need to look that up...too many people seem to need a little visual punishment

I've found that giving in to my cravings to lick certain food items is really helpful. =) last night I cooked one of those Velvetta box meals for the family cause it was easy. It smelled sooo good. I gave in and had a lick of the sauce. Ya know what... yuck. My tastes have changed so much already. Instead of craving it the whole time, i found out i didnt want it anyway and enjoyed my little cup of Soup juice. No one made it to this forum for having the will some act that you should. I hope if i ever do make it to the point of licking a dorito.. that it no longer takes good. Wouldn't it be great if all my food weaknesses did that. I bet they won't but I'll deal with that from day to day. On my birthday i might even have a small piece of cake (gasps). But i think I'll be just fine... And i won't need counseling for it.

Wow! As a confirmed conspiracy theorist, I absolutely HAVE to get this book now. I'm convinced that the premise of this book isn't just "theory" though. Think about it: Lay's slogan is "Betcha can't eat just one!" Hm. They're pretty much telling us that they know we can't stop eating them.

I'm curious though, lollyfidy1965. How does knowledge and understanding of the process make it easier to resist unhealthful food? The disgust and horror factor? Like, I don't eat hot dogs because I learned what was actually in them.

Or should I just read the book myself? B)

Gustavo,

I'm the sort of person who can manage something if I'm able to understand it. If I know that little voice inside my head...the one screaming for something bad...is the result of someone's intentional attempts to control my brain (in a very unhealthy way), I am able to not eat whatever it is that voice is screaming for. Its a function of awareness....like controlling what/how much you eat by beginning to honestly track everything you put in your mouth. (If that makes any sense.) :)

Yes, that makes perfect sense. There's a lot of brainwashing going on in today's society. Awareness is one of the first steps towards wisdom. And wisdom begins with the words, "I don't know." I'm the kind of person who'd rather know than not know. I can see how understanding the process of manipulation helps break the chains of it. Thanks.

By the way, the above statements are my opinions and not intended to insult, admonish, criticize, or advise in any manner.

Thank you Susan! I apologize to "Gustavo " that I'm not an english lit major like he is...this poor guy who asked about Doritos, unfortunately probably will never ask for A-D-V-I-C-E again!

Sorry, but I need to add in one more correction... "assless chaps" is redundant. What other kind of chaps are there?

(this is actually a running joke in my office... you'd be amazed at how often the phrase "assless chaps" comes up...)

I was a microbiology major in college. Not that it matters.

I know this statement has nothing to do with the subject of this forum, but I didn't want assumptions made about me that are inaccurate. I also intend no insult or tone of retaliation by this statement. Thanks.

I don't know what the big deal is...if you look around, there seems to be quite a few threads where people are doling out advice....mostly along the lines of "divorce that bastard".....as well as quite a few recommendations to seek counseling (marriage counseling). Apparently it's perfectly ok on a WLS forum to give advice about marriage, but not eating.

Although I agree with you, I'm now just trying to make my responses on here as clear as possible so my intention, tone, and meaning is not misinterpreted. And I no longer wish to give advice on here, so I like to make sure whatever I write on here going forward is not interpreted as such. My intention in giving advice never is, was, or will be to set a course of discussion into play that will lead to someone being insulted, nor do I want to be accused of it.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
