I've never taken it but I know 2 different people who took it just before climbing into bed.. unfortunately they both woke up in their cars.. and neither of them remembered getting out of bed let alone driving! One totaled her car and was injured, the other gal fortunately 'just' ended up on some random person's lawn..

besides the addictive nature of it these stories also scared the crap out of me. Scary that docs prescribe it to people who don't know about it and for the most part we trust our doctors..

I saw something on TV about the effects of Ambien, and I will never use it again.

sleep walking, talking, eating, driving and having sex. Things, a person really wants to be awake for!

I'm so glad it doesn't give me any trouble. All I do is sleep. I hope that never changes.

When I need to take it, I need to get some sleep.

I have taken Ambien in the past and just recently after surgery because I have been having major sleep issues. I will only take one or two nights of it, that was, until last Friday night...I guess I have started metablolizing meds differently after surgery(happened to my sister after her sleeve too) and the f'ing Ambien did a 180 on me and kept me up all damn night!!! I was so pissed and a complete wreck on Saturday. No more Ambien for me.

I used to take Ambien and every once in a while will pop one as I go to bed if I am under stress and want a solid night's sleep. No issues for me. But my doctor did say it is habit forming so most nights I take one Tylenol PM. I have a hard time shutting off my brain as I go to sleep, so the Tylenol PM helps.

WTH???!!!! Just take a slug of whiskey. That is totally unacceptable and downright creepy. Thank for the heads up.

tylenol is really not good for the liver. You can buy the same sleep ingredient that is in tylenol PM without the tylenol. Unless you're in pain and need tylenol, it's better to take one of the OTC sleep meds like Sominix which doesn't have the tylenol, just the stuff for sleep. I see on TV that Nytol now has something out for sleep. I am going to check out the ingredients on that.

I've been under alot of stress over the last few years and go thru phases of being unable to sleep for days at a time. I now have a long commute and cannot afford to be be groggy (I use to work at home 60 lbs ago).

I use to take Lunesta and I had a side effect of telling a little girl to go home at 2am because they were making too much noise....and she did!! Walked all the way home. When I found out the next day I apologized to everyone and threw it away.

Ambien has never given me the side effect. I do take it while in bed. Sometimes it doesn't work because my mind wont shut down but overall its good. I was worried if it would change post-sleeve like everything else but so far no problems. However, my family is still careful about waking me when I take it -- i think they're terrified I'll kick them out too.

WOW scary stuff - I take 3mg Lunesta every night along with trazadone to shut my brain down...I'm a super light sleeper but I've never had any side effects, thank goodness.

Knock on wood I only have the crazy dreams. Had a dream I got shot in the head so I called an ambulance. While waiting for them to show I decided to get lunch. But the whole time I was eating I was worried people would notice the bullet wound on the side of my head. Woke up and started cracking up. Too bizarre. But yeah other then crazy dreams nothing happens.

I get crazy dreams when not taking Ambien. My husband came in one night and I woke up. Did not recognize him (married 10 years at that time). Knew i was in my room, those were my kids in the other rooms, my house but couldn't grasp him. He didn't know what was wrong. Took my blanket wrapped it around me to hide from the stranger in my room and went into my kids room and locked the door. I knew I had to be sleeping but couldn't get myself out of it. This was well before I started taking any sleep aid. Nuts.

yeah, these people are saying though that even if they take it in bed, they still wake up and start doing things they have no memory of doing. That's scary. I do have a friend who it gives crazy dreams to.

Lunesta does not work well for me at all. I wake up in 2 hours and can't go back to sleep. I hope I never do anything crazy on Ambien because when I need it, I sleep well with it.

I have to chime in here as an Ambien Supporter! :)

In fact, I think Ambien saved my life. I've been taking it for about 7 years. My insomnia reached a critical point -- I've always suffered from it but it got to the point where I was endangering my health from not sleeping. My doc rx'd Ambien and my life immediately changed. I actually slept and slept well. I wake up with no grogginess at all. When I first started taking it I would take it when getting ready for bed -- and I always tinkle before getting in bed. I would sit there tinkling and the carpet looked like it was moving...lol... I always thought it was funny! Then I would go to bed and feel great when I woke up. The only other side effect is something my husband still talks about to this day...and it only happened once...apparently I got a little, uh, lets say less inhibited one night...lol... Both my brothers take Ambien too with no issues. Obviously it affects everyone differently. As for being addicted -- like I told my doc-- who cares? I'm addicted to something that helps me sleep like a normal person. The alternative is to lose my mind and health from not sleeping... So whats worse? My doc said hey, I agree with you. For me, Ambien was a miracle.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
