Hi everyone, I had my VSG on Tuesday, August 14th so today makes me 2 days post op. I'm having a lot of trouble drinking any Water at all and drinking the Protein and taking my Vitamins is a struggle. Has anyone experienced this? The surgeon says my stomach is still swollen and it's going to be rough at first but I don't want to risk dehydration or malnutrition!

I just focused on hydration the first week. Your body is in total shock from your surgery. Just sip as often as you can. if your worried about dehydration just keep an eye on your urine color (the lighter the better). You are probably taking in more than you think. There will be not much of a chance of taking in all of the liquid and Protein the first week just due to your healing process. Next week you can focus on your Protein but you could sip on Protein shakes which also count as liquid.< /p>

When in doubt you can always call the nurse from your surgeon's office.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!!

Did you try some sugar free popsicles? That might help, too! Don't worry too much about the Protein Shakes now, get your fluids in. Try putting Crystal Light or Mio, any sugar free flavor in your Water, nothing red. Herbal teas, broth, jello-no red, Gatorade G2 helped me. Just get the fluids in as best you can. Call your Dr.'s office if things don't get better!! Take Care:)

Every time I have a Popsicle i feel so full and the Water fills me up too. I am starting to get upset about this whole situation and questioning whether this is worth it. I just need to know its going to get better and it will be worth it. This pain is becoming too much and I wish it would just go away.

I am 2 wks out and my worst days were 3 and 4. It gets better I promise! I wondered if I had made the right decision. And yes we did!! Try to keep your head up. This is an emotional and physical battle and we just have to keep going.

I agree- focus on the Water first, then Protein. It will get better - we promise!! I remember the pain in my chest from swallowing like it was yesterday & it DOES hurt like a son of a gun!! Hang in there. You'll start to notice a difference over the next 3-4 days. It won't be gone - but it will slowly begin to improve.

I am 8 days post-op and it has been a struggle for me, as well. I questioned myself every day.........every day. I do agree with ebthompson2010, the 3rd and 4th box was aweful for me. Hell, everyday after that was horrible. On day 5, my incisions were infected, day 6 I was back in ER because I was dehydrated and my largest incision developed a pus like bubble on top of it. i had to complete a CT scan with contrast. Trying to explain to the nurses I can not drink the entire contrast was a waste of time. Most of them have not heard of a WLS Sleeve Surgury. Day 7, I experienced a low grade fever most of the day, so back to ER I go until day 8, which is today. I fill better today than the last 5 or 6 days.

So, yes, I questioned myself did I make the best decision and I'm still pondering. I'm so frustrated!!!

My surgery was Tuesday as well. The only thing I can keep down is Water, but I'd rather be hydrated then eating Kellogg's and stuff. This gas is not a joke. I just go to sleep and hope for a better morning.

I had to drink warm liquids to get anything down. I worked on staying hydrated over Protein. I couldn't do any cold bc I would get foamie crud coming up after. My surgeon said cold was constricting and sleeve was swollen so stick with warm liquids to help swelling subside. I know ever set of post op instructions are different but I didn't have to start supplements until 2 weeks out. Hope you feel better. I'm 3 weeks out and it does get better.

I had my surgery on Monday the 13th. It went well, but I am still in hospital due to a low heart rate and chest pain. They have run all the tests on me (EKG, bloodwork, etc) and everything came back negative so I guess it really from the gas they pumped into me. Heart rate is probably due to the narcotics. I can only do very small sips of liquids at a time. Last night, I was put on 'bariatric stage 3 diet' and they sent me cream of chicken Soup, vanilla pudding, and applesauce. I took 1 pre-op sied bite of the applesauce and let me tell ya ... PAIN! My body tols me right away that was a mistake. I guess liquid means liquid. For the next week and a half, liquids only!

Why nothing red? I was sleeved on Tuesday and was given red Jello for Breakfast Thursday in the hospital. I have also been drinking red crystal light. I can't find anything in my paper work that says to stay way from red

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
