I joined the group also.

I'm afraid I'm going to gain weight prior to surgery. I went to the Alexandria Fair this past weekend and was very bad.

I think the oatmeal was the only thing I liked... I ate probably 3 packets a day. Also, the eggs weren't bad or the chicken with noodles. I also ate some of the pancakes. It's hard to know what to order when you've never tasted any of it before. Have you tried any of those?

I Understand you.. All you can do is try your best! I've cheated on my pre op diet and I get surgery in 6 days. We're all human. But I weighed in at 267 starting pre op and I'm down to 258 right now and I still have a full 5 days to go. IT's all good!

Hey Rachel.. Sorry to hear you are having a hard time.. I start mine on Sunday.. I did one of those physician monitored liquids before.. It didn't last long and neither did I. I am not looking forward to it. I'll probably doing just drinks as well.. When your not eating food.. Dryer Soup just isnt a great alternative :)) .. I can't believe your date is getting near.. I am starting to get cold feet.. But I know it's something I need to do.. I'm not worried about the diet after.. Or the pain for that matter.. I think I'm more worried about complications.. I haven't asked Dr. Curry about his personal complication rate with this surgery.. I know he's one of the best, but many times it's not the doc, but your body.. Just kinda freaking a little.. My scope is thurs.. I know you said it was a piece of cake.. But nerves are getting me .. Fill me in on how you are doing.. The 10th will be here soon.. How do I join the local/Ohio group.. Thanks talk to you soon.. :)) Stephanie.

yea Rachel thats good you lost some weight. SO anyone have suggestion on what foods through Dr Curry would be pretty good. Even though I just decided to go through the process I still have time before I even start the pre-op diet. I guess I will miss eating around the holidays if I am approved for it. oh well no more good dressing and ham.

Hey Stephanie!

I understand about the cold feet! My surgery is Monday and I'm wondering should I get it or should I attempt yet another diet?? haha, but I know I need the extra help because nothing else has ever worked. and I was getting stressed so I went outside of the preop diet and Now I feel guilty about it.. I Hope I didn't sabotage my chances of having surgery Monday. Ughhh. Now I'm just getting my apartment together for when I come home, and I have a ton of cleaning and laundry to do lol I hope you have a lot better luck on the diet than I'm having! lol I'm not scared either about the diet afterwards or the pain. I have a very high pain tolerance and I've pushed myself through a lot of things. I think the hardest part is the pre op diet.. It really is more mental than anything. Ugh lol Also I'm not too scared about the complications either. I leave that in Gods hands. But that is just me ^_^ besides this pre op diet the thing i'm not looking forward to is people taking care of me and waiting on me! I hate that! I'd rather do it for myself but sometimes it just is what it is lol and seriously the scope is SUPER easy ! ( If i'm reading right you had it today?) Hope all went well!! and to join the cincinnati sleevers, just click it under one of our names and it will take you to the page and there is a join group button in the upper right corner! I hope to hear from you soon!

I can't believe the holidays are right around the corner and for the first time in my whole life I will not be able to stuff myself! I'm both upset and excited about this aspect. One because I'll not be able to stuff myself and I'll be living a healthier life style. but 2 I'm a fat girl who really loves food and it will no longer be my "friend" per say ya know?? lol so I just have to stay in prayer and realize that I'm doing this for my health and that I'll be able to eat all the foods (I hope) I love again one day just in a smaller quantity.

Jakat and lynn2win... I am sorry to report I HATED everything. well almost everything the 3 things Icould stomach were the : 1 Lemonrazzy drink, 2 the Cappuccino and 3 the marshmallow hot chocolate.. everything else...oh god.. I reallly realllly hope yall find something that you like! but if you don't you can return boxes and do packet exchanges! oh and the shakes/puddings aren't terrible.. but the Soup chili oatmeal Protein bars... BARF ( Just my personal opinion and I hope it's not true for you all!)

I ate tons of oatmeal. Get the crispy Protein Bars, not the chocolatey ones. The eggs, chicken with noodles, pancakes and Jello were tolerable too. I ate LOTS of Breakfast food.< /p>

Zebrasprinkles, you will be just fine. During the holidays you'll taste all those goodies and feel satisfied with just a taste. Then you'll turn around and see a more beautiful young woman in the mirror and feel even more satisfied. I am so excited for you that you'll take your place on the losers bench on Monday. I can hardly wait to hear how well you do.

Rachel 4 more days are you ready.....we will all pray for you to have a easy go around. I wish we didn't have to buy the food from their because I would rather do Slimfast or a cleanse. I just think I will waste money on these foods. I don't spend $200 in a month on food. I AM A COUPONER!!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
