Because journey lite was just like 2 doors down after I woke up from the egd, we walked over and spoke to Chastity ( I think that is how you spell her name ) and got an appointment right then! It was super quick and easy.

Stephanie,

Do not be nervous at all! I know easier said than done because I was super nervous too! You do get an IV and I have huge veins so they stuck me in my arm, the worst part about the whole this is right before you pass out.. they have the friendliest nicest staff, he was like this is the numbing spray fro your throat, it tates delicious, I said don't lie to me lol and he said yeah this is the worst part it's nasty, but I remember my oxygen nose thing being put on my nose, the spray going down my throat and the next "minute" I was waking up from recovery! I could not believe it lol apparently I said a lot of things... I woke up saying " I'm wasted!" and about " I had a dream" the nurse said about what? I said A cup of water! lol I was thirsty I guess?! and talking about how ham and greenbeans are my favorite food... lol wtf? I don't remember annnnny of that! don't stress! It's super easy, and I am having my surgery done at journey lite on september 10th and yes I would like to stay in thouch! Keep me updated on y our progress as well!

How long are you going to be on the pre-op diet? If it's just a week or two, it will be ok... I had to do four weeks and it was brutal.

It's basically packets of flavored "food" that you just add Water to. You get to select what you want. You are supposed to have 5 packets a day plus one Protein bar. They were pretty gross so it was hard to get 5 in. After two weeks I was getting very dizzy and weak from the lack of calories. I almost passed out while working out then I threw up when I got home. I talked to Rebecca and Dr. Curry and they told me to just stop working out! Can you believe that? lol

I still have several boxes left over because I just couldn't stomach it and cheated at least once a week (since I had already lost 65 lbs). These are my suggestions from the choices for the diet, the only things I liked were the crispy Protein Bars (variety pack), most of the Breakfast food is pretty good- pancakes, eggs, and the oatmeal is great (sometimes I ate it 3x a day), the chicken Soup with noodles, chili, Jello. I hated the other Soups, smoothies, pudding, chocolate bars, drink mixes. But, that's just my opinion. I wish someone would have given me a heads up because I ended up going back there and trading a few unopened boxes for more oatmeal. lol

I'm at the other end of the state, in Toledo. I don't think anyone from Toledo is on here. I still have one month of nutritional counseling to do. Getting anxious.

Hey Lynn2win!

I started my process in july, July 18th actually. I had my consult with dr curry and psych and introduced to the staff that day, it was a 3 hour visit. I had my EGD scheduled for August 29th but I goofed and somehow thought it was August 15th but they were nice and understanding and took me in (oops! lol) and they submitted my stuff to insurance on August the 3rd they approved it on august 6th and I got my letter on August 10th. So after my egd on the 15th we walked over to the office and they scheduled me for September 10th, so only 21 more days to go! eek! Hope your process goes as quickly as mine!

ZebraSprinkles, Congrats on getting your date! After I get my insurance approval, I won't get to see the surgeon for maybe a month and then the date will be about another month!!! For me it's all too slow!

September 10 is just around the corner! Going to the losers bench. YAY!!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
