It's my first day on full liquids and I'm only 3/4 of the way finished my first Premiere Protein and it's 2pm, I started at 7am. And gassy as..... I dunno what!

How do you meet your protein needs at this pace?

Michele

I don't think anyone was able to drink anywhere near 50-60g in the first week. I think your doctor would want you to concentrate more on Water than anything else so you don't get dehydrated. I feel your pain, I am three weeks out and believe me it does get easier!

One sleever told me to set a timer and force yourself to take another sip every 10 minutes. That helped remind me to keep drinking all day.

Good luck!

For most people, I don't think you can. Yes, there are some folks who don't have the internal swelling most of us have the first couple weeks post-op and they are able to drink all their liquids and Protein. But for most of us, it is impossible. I wouldn't worry so much about the protein quota as I would the liquid quota. Dehydration will land you in the hospital ... lack of protein won't.

I echo everyones sentiments here. I didnt set a timer, didn't get hungry or thirsty, didn't get in Protein and landed in the hospital with dehydration. Worry about staying hydrated first then the rest will fall into place soon enough.

Thanks for your replies everyone. You can bet I'm carrying Water with me all over the house and sipping constantly. The last place I want to go is back to the hospital!

Thanks!

I, too, find it incredibly difficult to get the Protein. I'm in the soft foods stage. I've tried several different kinds of shakes, but can't find one that is really good. I'm constantly thinking about Water, but I'm so full sometimes it doesn't want to go down. I'm frustrated. This is my fourth week post op.

I started full liquids a few days ago and I'm having the same problem. I try to focus on liquids, and if that means I have to revert back to my nectar Protein Shakes to get some Protein in, so be it. I'm having a hard time choking down my Unjury shakes because they are so heavy. I just keep reminding myself it will get better with time.

It gets better! I literally had to look @ the clock every 15 min & sip something. Like a need, I carried a bowl full of 1oz ramikins to measure them out. That lasted a day @ a half, ha! I try to treat my Protein Drinks as 'meals' & sip in between them. Ice chips from Sonic & sugar free Popsicles have been my best friends; as have Propel Zero & Sobe drinks=electrolytes! I'm 13 days post-op; my goal is 64oz of Protein & 64oz liquids; I get about 60oz protein & 35oz of liquids a day. The most important thing for me is to TRY (& don't throw up)!

Hi everyone. I'm 5 days post op and counting on the fact that things will get better. My first day home from the hospital was hell. There was good smelling food everywhere...grilled bbque chicken, potatoe salad, baked beans..hummus...all my favs. I tried to cheat with a small bite of chicken...chewed it to dust and iT literally felt as it it rip my insides out! Hard lesson learned... So now paying very close attention and noticed that the most I can tolerate is a small sip of liquid...just like the doc said...go figure! Literally, a gulp is self-punishment. I'm having a hard time getting any Fluid so thanks for the tips as I don't want to end up in the hopsital for dehydration. My question is this, and im embarassed to ask but do any of you feel as if something is moving inside you stomach like a baby's movement? If you have ever been pregnant then you'll know what movement I'm talking about and NO I'm not pregnant! Not sure if those are hunger pains or what?

Try the BariWise products from Bariatric Choice. They are like crystal light with Protein. These were the easiest for me in the beginning. They are 60 calories with 15 grams of protein. They have a variety pack I started with. One difference is they aren't as potent as crystal light which is too strong for me and hurts my throat. They also have a great hot chocolate which was soothing.

Someone told me about Unjury. What flavor are you trying. She told me about chocolate splendor. Are they gross? Its expensive!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
