About how long does it take after surgery to feel normal again? And other than having 80% of your stomach removed, do you feel normal? Not sure if what I'm trying to say makes sense. I'm terrified still, so I'm looking for anything positive to keep me from chickening out. I'm tentatively scheduled for September.

Don't chicken out. I had mine done Aug. 26 and I feel fine. I was only out of work for a week and two days. I'm still a little sore but it's not bad at all. Other than not being able to eat much any more life is back to the same as it was before.

My surgery was July 27 and I started feeling normal again about two weeks out. The hard part about feeling normal again is you really have to be careful not to overdo things. My husband has to keep reminding me not to lift over 10 pounds, etc...

Had my op July 25th. First 3 Days were pretty crappy. But from day 4 things got better and better. Returned to work on day 12. Feel absolutely fine. Apart from smaller portions, you cant actually feel that part of your stomach is missing :)

I was asking those same exact questions just one week ago! I was sleeved just this last Wednesday August 8. Like someone said above me, my first three to four days were hellish. I say hellish simply because of the frustration of being in normal post-op pain. (I had weird pains radiate from my diaphragm to between my shoulder blades every time I tried to sip even the smallest amount of Water.) I'm still surprised I'm never hungry. Now that the swelling has started going down in my new sleeve, it's beginning to feel almost normal, except that I'm just never hungry, and I haven't eaten a solid for 3 weeks now (unheard of for me!).

Just my two cents :). Be excited!!!

Thanks for all of your replies. I just want to feel normal. I'm not scared of the actual surgery , I'm more scared of how I'm going to feel after I heal. Hoping for zero issues.

You will be fine and the longer it is past your surgery the happier and more excited you will get. The first 3 weeks were the hardest, (mine was July 13), my mind and smells etc.. and now I feel great! Good luck!!

The first two weeks were hardest for me. But one month out now, it's like might and day. Wishing you speedy recovery time.

This all depends on how you define "normal". If "normal" means being able to shove 1500 calories down your throat in one sitting or always getting the biggest size popcorn at he theater. Or maybe "normal" is being winded after climbing 1 flight of stairs. Then NO, Thank God, I will never feel "normal" again

I'm gonna be like my weirdo friends that actually climb mountains for recreation. You know, those crazy people that don't need to grab a candy bar & a soda every time the put gas in their car. Those oddballs that can walk by a box of donuts and not grab one(or 2 or 3 or 4). What about those nut jobs out there on Seadoos jumping waves and having fun.

Nah, in a country where 65% of the population are overweight, and over 1/2 of those are obese(38% of the population), I for one do NOT want to be normal.

Put me with the 35% minority, because that is where I'm heading. Excuse me for putting it so bluntly, but "normal" sucks.

@otrsleever. I don't think she meant "normal" like being able to consume large amounts of food anymore. Im thinking she means like not having pain, or getting headaches, or having nausea, etc. You probably read ino her question more than she was asking.

Going with OTRSLeever's theme, I was offered a donut sample in the grocery store by one of the very nice bakery workers. It was one of their yummy Krispy Kreme knock offs. I smiled and said "no thank you". Now that is not NORMAL for me! The old normal would have happily taken one and then looped back around the store for another and then bought the box. The new me actually had NO DESIRE to eat the donut.

Post surgical, I felt pretty close to normal at about day 5. I struggled with liquid and Protein, but my body felt good. By the end of week 2, we had a big college tour to do with my son. It was a lot of traveling, driving and walking. I was completely ready for it and did great.

Remember that everyone heals differently. Plan for time to take it easy. I was told to plan on a month. I have also read that the more physically active you are before surgery, the easier recovery is. If I had it to do over, I would have gotten out and walked or worked out on my eliptical machine before surgery.

Good luck!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
