Unexpected Trip... Can't Take Shakes W/me. Need Help!

Recommended Posts

I just found out that I will be going on an unexpected trip. I don't think I will be able to pack my shakes with me. Are there any Protein pills or something small that I will be able to take? I am 12 days post-op as of today (8/12) and by the time I fly I will be 4 weeks post-op. I know that I will be able to eat some fish and chicken by then, but I don't want to risk not getting enough protein. Can anyone help me out here?

Maybe you could pack just the powder and Blender Bottle and all you need is Water to add. Or even unflavored Protein Powder (can find at most health food stores if you dont have time to order online) and add it to anything you eat that you can?

Just some ideas....hope others can add more suggestions,

I travel a lot for work overseas. I will usually pack a few pre mixed shakes in my suitcase that I check (in case I have trouble with reliable Water or milk which has only happened once or twice), and then I pre measure Protein Powder into snack size zip lock baggies (2 scoops each) and put those baggies in my shaker bottle, my purse and my suitcase - just to be safe in case my suitcase goes missing :-)

You can buy a small food processor that you cn ack in your bag. Process meat avocado spinach and dip flavouring. Maes a great protein el that digests easily. With the shakes that should do the trick.

Is the powder any good? I have never had any. I am just worried about flying with it.

You can bring Protein Drinks through security with you. Medically necessary food and drinks are aloud.

Do I need any kind of documentation to back it up?

Do I need any kind of documentation to back it up?

If you can get your doctor (even a pcp) to write a note stating it's medically necessary it couldn't hurt.

I am sure this is a stupid question, but can you buy the powder and Blender Bottle at the Vitamin Shoppe? I really wouldn't do this if it wasn't important. I am too new to feel secure is risking all this, but I am glad y'all are here to help.

I've found blender bottles at HEB (not sure where you live) and Walmart. They tend to be in the area where Protein powders are. You can find powders almost anywhere, the issue is finding one that you enjoy drinking.

I live in Charlotte, NC. We have Walmart, but I have never heard of HEB. I am sure I can get my Dr. to write me a note or something.

Whoops, HEB is a grocery store in southeast Texas. Check with Walmart, just remember to look in the Protein powder section. If all else fails, you can purchase on Amazon. You will love the bottle, it is perfect for mixing drinks.< /p>

And just a side note, if you do get a letter from your doctor make sure you show the security people BEFORE you go through the line so they wont make a big deal about your Protein drinks. Just from experience on the way home from Mexico, in San Diego we had a HUGE issue just trying to get 2 bottles of Water through. The security lady wanted to argue with me and ended up throwing my full/unopened bottles of Water in the trash. It turned into a big fiasco because my husband got pretty upset. I showed them paperwork from the hospital and she still pretty much said she didnt care.....then another guy came over and got my water out of the trash (it was on top) and said he was sorry.

Anyway, it was not fun.....if I had to do it again I would have my documentation out and show it to whoever would look at it before going through just to avoid issues.

Good luck to you!

Thank you all so much. This has been a huge help. I still wish they made some sort of pill and I could just take with Water to make sure I got what I needed, but this is great. I wasn't sure about the powder and if they would try to stop you or not at the gate or baggage check.

I do not travel internationally often but I have never had any trouble getting a small baby powder in my carry on. Even if they did test it for explosives it would not trigger. Find some good tasting (to you) Protein powder and do not sweat it. At the moment I am enjoying powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury. I picked up some rice Protein Powder at a whole foods and it was gritty. I can drink it in a pinch but would not buy it again.

Hope the trip is for a happy reason!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
