I Love Having Water At Night Again!

Recommended Posts

Just had to share my excitement. I was sleeved 3.5 weeks ago after having a crap band for 6 years. I love having a drink at night, anytime, laying down, and not waking up choking on vomit. This was my fear with a sleeve. It doesn't happen to me. Sooo happy. It's the little things!

6 year with the band huh? I'm having my band removed tomorrow after 7 years and my doctor said he won't do the sleeve if I have scar tissue... Was that an issue for ur doctor?

I just had my band removed in June, after having it for 7 years....my doctor was able to do both procedures the same day....my surgery took longer than he thought it would (2 hours) but it was because he had to clean the scar tissue around the band....

But he was able to do it.....I think doctors tell patients that so you can know what the worst case senario would be....when he told me that I could have 2 surgeries instead of the one, I starting praying to God....

God please guide Dr. Yu's hands so I can have 1 successful surgery, amen....every time I thought about the procedure I would say that prayer....

If you dont want to procedures, make sure you follow the 2 week pre-op diet to the letter and pray.....

prayer works!!

I had my band removed after 6 years and revised to a sleeve on July 10th. I can finally eat regular food only very small amounts. With the band I ate a lot of Ice cream and crunchy things,The only foods that I could tolerate. I waited a long time because I didn't think I would be covered for a revision. I am so happy that I finally had the surgery. 5 of my friends had the lap band about the same time as me. 3 had it removed and one was converted to gastric bypass.

My revision was done about 9 months apart. I lost my band at 19 weeks pregnant. I swelled inside and out. That made my band close off, despite being empty. Total nightmare. I had a healthy baby 18 weeks later. Thank God. When baby turned six months, I went back for the sleeve. The Dr didn't mention anything about scar tissue at all.

I was revised back in July as well, I am struggling to get the last 10-15 pounds off you would think after 2.5 years with the lap band I would know how to eat. I had more success loosing weight with the band than I do now. Of course I could not eat anything with the band.

What do you find is the difference in the weightloss?

I puked non stop though for six years. Despite not eating or drinking two hours before bed, I always woke up choking on my own vomit. I want to yell from the rooftops, "Don't get the lap band!". The pregnancy only made it much worse. It was bad for the entire six years though. I lived on greasy Mexican food covered in cheese, Pasta in sauce, or anything in gravy. Healthy! Not.

I love my VSG i can eat anything, but i really am having trouble getting the last 10 pnds off, and its frustrating.

your 6 years issue was my last 6-9 months was awful and painful. I could not imagine being pregnant ontop of it.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
