I have the same problem. Try liquid whey Protein, some call them protein bullets. One brand is New Whey Protein and it is ok. I mix mine with some Water. Walmart has it in singles and in a box of six. My bariatric nurse said it is a good option if shakes are too filling and take all day to drink. They are 0 sugar also. It is much easier to sip 4 oz of liquid than 16 to20 of a thick shake that is gross after a while. Try the Liquid Protein and let me know, I like the grape but want to try the fruit punch next.

They have Protein Shots too. Look like big test tubes, fruit punch flavor. 26 grams of Protein, only 3 oz of liquid.

I have put the powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury strawberry sorbet flavor in my Crystal Light. It is a good way to get in the Protein. However, it is a flavor you may tire of. My lesson learned: Do not stock up on any Protein products.

Another option might be to get the Cytosport 100% Whey (I get the big bag at costco, chocolate or vanilla, ~$50/bag). 27 grams per scoop and it dissolves perfectly in coffee in a shaker cup (if you are allowed coffee). That is my first drink of the day, every day. I haven't tired of it yet, and it has been months since I started drinking it. No sugar or milk, just coffee and Cytosport, and it tastes very good!

At two weeks out my NUT was not worried about me getting in all my Protein. I was lucky if I got in 20-30 grams a day at two weeks. It's more important to keep up your Fluid intake and get in protein when you can. As you get farther out, you'll be able to add more and more protein in, especially with foods. I think it took me almost two months before I was getting in 60 grams of protein. Now, at three months out, I'm getting in 60-80 grams a day because you can eat more things heavier in protein like chicken, tuna, meats, cheeses, yogurt, etc. I also throw in a Quest or Simple Truth Protein Bar occasionally if I feel like I'm a little low on protein - especially if I am going to be working out later as I need the energy. While most Protein Bars also have higher carbs, they are okay in moderation especially if you are going to be active.

Tracey, protien is important, but it is still completely normal to be under goal at 2 weeks. Your primary focus now should be hydration.

Also, be careful with protien shots. Almost all that I've seen so far use collagen as the primary source of protien. Your body simply cannot properly digest collagen Proteins. Also never assume by the name on the bottle what is inside. There is a huge trend of putting a tiny little amount of whey(the good stuff) in a shot of collagen(useless to us) and calling it something with Whey in the title.

This is precisely what has happened with the "New Whey Protien" shot that advertises 42g of Protein.

OTRsleever, thanks for pointing that out about the collagen Protein. I'm going to ask my NUT about it next week. Does anyone suggest another non-filling form to get protein? I'm concentrating on Water but have been trying protein things also. I can't wait to eat real food.< /p>

That actually sounds good. Starbucks makes the single serve instant coffee packets. I wonder how well they dissolve.

I take the iced tea nasty Isopure and squeeze lemon in it with 2 Splenda. I fill my 16 oz cup with 8 oz of Water and 8 oz of Isopure and keep making this fake iced tea concoction until I finish the bottle. It's not my favorite, but it's bearable.

I'm almost week 2 as well and usually end the day 40-50g of Protein. I've been replacing some Water with skim milk, no more than 2x a day with 4-ounces. Personally the milk isn't as filling to me to be called a meal but it also has 4g of protein per 4 ounces.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
