Hang in there! There are many different flavors/types of Protein Powder and Protein Shots and Protein Drinks. Have you tried liquid nutritional supplements like boost? ensure? Those both have some Protein in them. How about making some broth and adding one of the Unjury chicken or beef flavored powders while it's warm (not hot)? Protein is super important, as I'm sure you know. Maybe ask your doctor to prescribe some medicine for nausea? My doctor gave me 600ml of phenergan liquid. I take 10-15ml once every couple days when I feel nauseous and it helps worlds (Although beware, it does make you tired!)

I was just saying to myself that I was struggling getting all of my Protein in too - meats are gross - yogurts nasty - cheese, well, I burnt myself out the first few days of my 3 rd week! So I am right there with you! Everything does not taste good or right but I too have heard it will be like that for several months and then back to normal! I am drinking "total lean " Swiss chocolate from GNC (they're online if there isn't one close to u) - they're lactose free too! They run about $ 9.99 for 4 pre made drinks and they're good! I drink 2 of those and there is 25 g of protein per container! 170 calories! But I will add finding buddies to help along with ideas is great too! Myfitnesspal is a great way to hold yourself accountable along with getting ideas from food journals ! So just a few ideas but it will get better for us I know ! U can find me on fitness pal - SNKEMS333 ! Good luck!

I have been feeling sooooo weak today. I am so light headed and can barely sit up. I finally had to get some Protein. I tried the 'Protein To Go' shots. They have 28g of Protein and 120 calories. It's only a small amount to drink so it is easier to choke down than a Protein shake. I've only tried chocolate. http://proteintogo.com/

Oh I go through the same thing with protien. I remember one day being so lightheaded and miserable. I get grossed out at everything too. I am 3 months out yesterday.

Remember to always listen to YOUR doctor but my nutritionist told me those protien to go aren't the kind of protien they want us to use. She said it is LOW GRADE protien. She said it is grinded up bones. :( just fyi to ask your doc :).

I tried so many protien drink mixes and could not stand the taste or smell. I have since found two brands that are so good they are like a treat.

Special K Protien shake 10 prot. 160 cal. 25 carb Love the dark chocolate, milk chocolate caramel.

EAS AdvantEdge carb control 17 prot. 110 cal 10 carb my favorites are mocha something, dark chocolate and cafe caramel. They are really good, at least to me. Hope this helps. It will get better.

How do u like them? Do they have that strong whey protein taste and smell? Are they thick?

I don't know if this is true or not, but when I first had my lap band in, it was a good 6-8 weeks before I could stand the taste of pretty much anything. My GP said it was the anesthesia, that it really does a number on your taste buds and sinuses and nasal passages? Anyway whatever caused it, once it went away, it WENT AWAY, and I sort of rebounded. Like, everything tasted 400 times better than I remembered.

Of course you sound like you're much further out than 6-8 weeks, so perhaps it's your digestive system sending a secret message to your brain to make everything just smell and taste yuck, so it can heal and get "right" before being put back in the game.

Don't know, but I hope it gets better for you!

:-)

I'm only 12days out but I agree. Sometimes my stomach is growling and the idea of food just seems gross....I feel like I force myself to drink a Protein Shake, which sometimes takes me 2hrs!

Ready to lose it

The protien drinks I mentioned do not have any protien taste or smell. The Speclal K is a little creamy, but I wouldn't call it thick. Try a 4 pack first and if you like them you can by a larger pack at a brtter price at Walmart or evrn larger snd bettrr deal at Sams club.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
