I had the sleeve doneon Monday Sept 17th--had alot of pain (more than I had anticipated) but today - 5 days post op' date=' I finally am feeling better-showered, hair washed and styled and mascara on! Off for a short walk and then spending the morning on the porch reading and enjoying the beautiful fall day!!

My question is: How many of your surgeons/doctor groups called you at home post op?? Mine has not, and I am kind of pissed about it!

Ann[/quote']

My hospital called me after the EGD which actually surprised me so I can only imagine they will after the surgery. Every place is different.

Well, had my sleeve done on Sept 11th, with a hiatal hernia repair which I was not expecting. I could not get anything down for the first 2 days, lots of nausea and vomiting. then yesterday I started swallowing and getting the liquids down but then I have constant heartburn and frequent hiccups. but I feel much better. I hope to be going home tomorrow.

In my after care I've been told to take 1 prilosec for 2 months. Will help keep down the stomach acids which also helps your stomach heal faster. Good luck healing :) I get sleeved on tuesday

I'm scheduled for this Thursday. I'm excited and nervous. 2 week pre-op liquid diet is not too bad but getting old.

I'm scheduled for Wednesday and you better believe this pre-op diet is getting old for me too. I long for some eggs and fat-free refried black Beans and avocado with a little salsa!

I'm kind of lucky my surgeon doesn't do the 2 week liquid diet pre op. I've just had to do a NO carb diet.

Pinky,

I had surgery on 9/7 and today was the first day when I tried the egg :) just the egg.

Also I start having terrible acid reflux. and Surgeon tried to prescribe me nexium( sp?) but my insurance company doesn't cover that. so now I am waiting for Monday, when Doctor would be in the office and give me something else. for now I am eating tums. it remind me my pregnancy time when I eat tums all day long.

My doctor's schedule starts me on pureed food after 2 weeks. The eggs I might have to soft scramble and then put in a blender. The Beans and the avocado can be pureed with a fork. Any reason I shouldn't eat at least one of those after 15 days?

I love avocados can't wait to try them after surgery. I have to look at my booklet about the phases. Ok,here goes, Phase 1, weeks 1&2, liquids. Phase 2, weeks 2-5, softs. Phase3, weeks 4-6, solids. I'm glad I looked at that.

Had surgery 9/14. To date, no complications except trying to drink 64 ozs. Started blended foods Fri. Start soft foods Wed. for a week. Amazing I get full after about 6-7 bites of food. I prepped myself for a month preop to sip and chew. Natural now. Good luck to all!

Hey everyone!!

So, I wanted to say that I am now 5 days post op!!! :D Had my surgery on the 17th first thing in the morning and all went very well. I did stay in the hospital till Friday the 21st to make sure I was ok, which was not bad at all!! Slept alot and walked alot. The pain for me was surprisingly alot less from when I had the band 7 yrs ago and having it removed 3 months ago!?!? Its weird though cuz everytime i woke up in the hospital i felt as if i missed my surgery lol and when I realized i already had it done I paniced... Day of surgey weight was 254.6, havent wieghd myself yet and dont plan too either till post op apt with doc. but i do feel very swollen. One thing that does suck for me the fact that i still have the draining tube in me and will have it till my 2 week post op!!!! I know...it freaks me out too! lol but i guess its what had to be done. I really hope we ALL lose our wieght and be healthy. hang in there everyone! it isnt that bad at all and I hope that everyone has a speady recovery :P

Is nasogastric used during most all sleeve surgeries? I'm scared of that.

No nasogastric as far as I know. I had to be intubated, which I hear is the norm, but you're asleep when it goes in and asleep when it comes out so no problems there!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
