Travel / Surgery Insurance?

Recommended Posts

HI all, hoping you can answer if you know if insurance is available to help in case there ARE complications? I am scheduled for surgery with Dr. Kelly on Aug 31 and my biggest concern is getting back to my home and then having a problem. I do not want to bankrupt my family and I am not sure how much risk I can take. Thanks!

Travel insurance is different from health insurance. Be sure to check with your insurance because many of them cover NO complications! It is scary. I'm just over 3 weeks out and doing great but that was a big fear of mine cause my insurance won't cover any complications.

Weight loss surgery and all related complications are a specific exclusion in my health insurance policy. I have this same fear. However, I have heard people who have leaks and such asking their providers to simply not mention the previous surgery for the billing code. Not sure if it will work but it's worth a try I guess.

I figured if their was a non emergency complication that I would just go back to Dr. Kelly. (I'm not sure if people do that). But if it were a cant wait has to be taken care of right now type of thing? Yeah I've worried about that too. Try not to let it worry you too much though, my family has lived without health insurance for almost 8 years we have 6 kids 3 of which r rambuctous boys and my husband is a logger! and worrying will drive you nuts!!! Somehow things work out. Also we've never had to use this but check with your hosp. Because some facilities are allowed to drastically eliminate large amounts of money off people's bills once per year.this might be something that could help you in a situation such as your talking about...I wish you well...

Yeah, Jennifer, people do that. Some ppl , like Almanza's patients, have to pay for their premiums in order for him to cover complications. Others, like my Dr, (Gonzalez) will take care of any complications all it costs u is the flight

Thank you all, I think I will contact Omar and ask if this has ever come up and what they would suggest. I do have insurance, and though my HR department assures me it's "fantastic coverage", I find that it doesn't cover a whole heck of a lot! I contacted them and they were very clear that they would cover nothing related to a complication of elective surgery. So I have made sure my PCP has made no record of the Mexican Surgery.

I may have to trust this is going to work out and follow Dr. Kelly's directions to a T. And somehow allay my husbands fears also. He owns his own business and we really need to protect what we have in this economy!

Best Wishes!

I have found a couple of on-line sources that may help those of us, like me who are most worried about complications!

I do not know how legit they are, anyone else look into this? Please let me know!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
