Feelings Right After Surgery

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for on Friday. I am getting very nervous. I was just wondering what it felt like right after surgery. I have had 2 c-sections with no problems, but thats all I have to compare to.

Hello there, I was just sleeved on 5/25

I found the pain to be very minimal, still a bit sore on my stomach area but I was off pain killers after four days and back to work in a week. Just make sure you arm yourself with some good anti.acid medicine...BURRRRRRRNNNNNING like I've never felt before.

I, too, am interested in finding out what I can expect immediately following surgery! What I've heard so far is that most people aren't in extreme pain, unless they have a leak later on.

You must be pretty excited (if a little nervous), having your surgery on Friday! I wish I could just get it over with! lol

I was sleeved on May 29th; immediately after the surgery, when I woke up in the recovery room, I felt like I'd been hit by a truck and I was *super* tired. The nurses set you up with a pain pump quickly, though, so your pain goes away soon. The problem is, each time you hit the pain button, you get sleepy. Like really sleepy. That was pretty much only overnight, though. And they had me up and walking a couple hours after surgery; it wasn't bad. Awkward, with all the hoses and pipes coming out, but not bad.

By the next morning, I was in much better shape. Now, 6 days out, it's all just a memory. Good luck! :)

I am 3 weeks post op tomorrow.. I had pain. I haven't had kids so I can't compare it. I am still sore in the spot where my Dr actually removed my stomach. Obviously everyone is different but I couldn't per the first night do they cath'd me twice-no biggie to me. My BP was sky high and my O2 was way low.

Oops hit send too early!! ;-)

Anyways I did pain meds every 4 hrs for over a week.

I also was pretty emotional about it.... I was really freakin that I'd made a bad decision. I think it was the meds, pain and the 'issues' I was having - kinda overwhelmed me. I felt very alone.

I am happy with it now though. Just had to get over that hump so to speak. :-)

I had surgery on May 31st. I think the first 2 days were the worst. It was the gas they pumped into me to do the surgery. The pain was across my collar bones. I walked and walked and took my pain meds and that helped. Now, I am 4 days out and feel great. A little sore around the incisions, but feeling pretty good. It is still hard to get my Protein and liquids in, but that is improving every day. I think if you do lots of walking, take your meds and get plenty of rest, it really helps with recovery. Good luck!

I was converted from the band to the sleeve 5/23 and had awful gas pain which I didn't have at all with the band. I will definitely second waking up and feeling like i'd been hit by a truck but later that night I did feel muh better with a heating pad on mu shoulders and some Tylenol I didn't use the pain pump.

I got really nauseous after I had skin removal surgery in November so I asked for more anti-nausea meds from the anesthesiologist which tremendously helped. I also had a Migraine going into surgery (I get one every time though usually I wake up with it) so I was a wreck going into the OR but magically my head felt 1000 times better in recovery. I had a patch behind my ear, a script they had me take 3 hrs before of Emend and I could have zofran in my IV whenever i wanted and also I think they gave me Reglan in my IV every few hrs.

M doc also sent a visiting nurse to give me home hydration since it was 90'+ here that weekend my mom switched the IV bag daily and it really helped because drinking the first few days hurt.

Good luck!!!

It doesn't compare to child birth. The surgery itself was a breeze and even the incisions didn't hurt me too much... It was the nausea afterwards that got me. The gas pains were bearable just don't sit around because they build up and that's hurts .... After five days post op I was feeling pretty good!!!! Now 14 days post op I'm feeling great...

I should say that not everyone experiences the gas pain and nausea... I was hoping to be one of those lucky ones... But no such luck for me. Maybe you will be that!!!

You will be fine! Yes it will probably hurt, you may have nausea, gas, and you may be sore. My mom said my first waking word was "it hurts" and my nausea was terrible. I maxed out on zophran and phenergan, plus i had the patch behind my ear. My dr wanted me up walking within 2 hours of being in my room. I did NOT want to! But I was coaxed out of bed to walk. Held the railing with one hand and the nurse had my arm on the other side. I continuously fell asleep trying to walk. Mom would pat me in the face and say wake up and walk. My mom had total hip replacement 5 weeks prior to my surgery and she will tell you I took care of her for the 4 weeks she was unable to get up and down etc. and stayed in the hospital with her for the 5 days post op. She says I told her while she was patting my face waking me up that I said "I wasn't this mean to you!"

It is uncomfortable, and sometimes pure misery. I am now 6 weeks out and sometimes feel like a baby trying to learn how to eat, but would I do it over again if I had known how miserable it would be? Absulutly 150%!!! I feel like I have my life back! I feel better than I have in years!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
