How long after the surgery are you cleared to go swimming? I'm having my surgery June 20 and there is a lot of summer after that to spend with my three kids. Will I be able to go swimming with them this summer? Thanks.

As soon as the incisions are healed.

I have a pool and I swim at a fitness club in the winter, it was my first question! I was told 4 - 6 weeks, depending on how I heal.

My surgeon told me as soon as two weeks BUT if I want to have "pretty" scars I should wait 4-6. He said swimming can damage the baby skin and it would make the scar much more noticeable.

As for swimming for exercise he went to his old stand-by "if it hurts, don't do it". He said I was fine to just "hang out" in the pool as early as two weeks, but that I should hold off on swimming laps, etc until I was completely pain free.

No matter what though, clear it with your doctor first. Our surgeon's can be so fickle sometimes, its better to just get the okay from them.

Hope that helps!

I was cleared @ 3 wks. I have been going to Water aerobics 3x a week since. The only scar that is not so pretty is the bigger one but I have been putting that scar cream on it and it is starting to look a lot better.

I also have a pool and that was one of my first questions. They said minimum 4 weeks. Its not the exercise they are concerned with, its the bacteria that can be in a pool or hot tub they worry about.

Yep, I am 17 days post op & just asked my Dr this question. I was told the incisions have to be completely healed, so no scabs left on them. Then I can go in a pool or bath.

How are your incisions 17 days out?

They are almost completely healed, but do have very thin slight scabs still on 2 of them. Thinking 1 or 2 more weeks & they will be completely healed!

Six weeks for me. Another reason why they want you to hold off is that you increase the risk of infection. I had to wait until I was completely healed.

Mine said as soon as the incisions are healed, which he said is normally 2-3 weeks. I'll be 2 weeks out tomorrow & still have some with scabs, so I'm going to wait a little longer. He said I could do more heavy exercise at 4 weeks, so even when I get in the pool I'll be careful what I do for a while. It will be nice to just get in though!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
