LoriRay got a reaction from shelbys mom in New Today. Surgery 5-29-12
I am doing very well! I have lost 24 lbs since I started the pre-op diet. Surgery went good also. I was in for 2 nights. (standard for them) I had my first check up on Tuesday and all is good. Had an allergic reaction to the liquid vicodin and broke out in a rash all over. That was not pleasant but its going away now. Good luck to you! It took me 7 months total but I did not have any of the co-morbidities that go along with a lot of patients do. I think honestly having that time to prepare was good for me too. I read a lot. This is a good site to get info from.

You will be very sore for the first few days. I was sleeved 5-29. Stayed in for 2 nights. The hardest part is getting in and out of the hospital bed. Today is day 10 and I am feeling great! You will be fine. I have never had any kind of surgery before and I was scared to death but it isnt all that bad. Good luck to you

I had a long talk with my wife & kids about my decision to have this surgery and my wish that noone else, family or friends be told about it. My kids are 28 & 26 and our 30th anniversary is coming up this month.
Let me say first that MGM, I so sympathize with your situation and it seems that you have every right to feel the way you do. OK so, I had the surgery on 6/25 but prior to that, I had a go-around not with my wife, but one of my children who thought it best to tell my family just in case, God forbid something went wrong in surgery. I said that if something went wrong, then fine....let mom tell 'em that I went for this to try to get healthier and something went terribly wrong, etc. and I didn't want anyone to know before so noone would have to worry. Long story short, it came down to me laying down the law and saying this is my business and don't you dare open your mouth! Luckily so far as I know, it's been obeyed. As for my wife, I can't say enough about her, she has been more than supportive, she's been truly my better half for 30 years, Bless her heart! She even took off the week I had the procedure to stay home and help take care of me if I needed it. I thank God every day for her and as we come upon our 30th anniversary I can say proudly that I would marry her all over again!

Forgive him for telling and it will free YOU from the stress of being upset or feeling angry at him. My wife agreed not to tell anyone too... and then she just told two of her closest friends, and she was being stopped in the supermarket by their extended family saying "I heard your husband is having surgery." We actually laughed about it when she told me, because she trusted "her closest friends" not-to-tell... and it was a learning experience for her - of how people actually behave when they know a secret. Having this surgery is not like having an STD, don't allow it to be a stigma in your life. Expecting your husband not to say anything to anyone is unreasonable. Turn it into a "positive" not one more thing to fight over... find a way to laugh about it. Tell him it's ok... you've just told your whole family that he's getting a penile implant. Perhaps he'll say "OK - I got the message." I've also found - that the harder I try to keep it from others - the more lies I have to tell & the awkward feelings that creates FOR ME. So I just say it - when I have to, and listen to the positive or negative comments, and move on knowing I'm doing this because I have to FOR ME.

Yeah, I'm sure there's a logical, caring reason why a spouse would throw a bunch of candy bars on his recently-sleeved wife's lap.

I feel 100% normal and I enjoy food everyday!! I feel in control cause I cannot eat big portions-- I do however eat reasonable portions and what ever I want! I can eat a 6in sub from subway with just the bottom bread for example. or 1 small slice of pizza and a buffalo wing. Perfect, no pain, no nausea, no weight gain!

I'm 6 weeks out and I am enjoying food again. It's not a lot of food and if you don't get caught up in the head game that you have finish everything on your plate then you can actually enjoy the tastes of each food more. I had a very rough start with some complications. I felt just like you wondering would I ever enjoy food again. I think I am in the majority when I say it gets better and easier every week. Some things work, some don't. Some days i dont feel hungry at all and forget to eat when i am supposed to and some days i actually feel hungry. Its nice to satisfy that hunger with just a yogurt, or one slice of deli meat and chees rolled up. I enjoy watching the scale go down and inches melt away. I know I will never get to gorge myself with an entire plate of food again, but I don't miss it. This was an opportunity for a second chance and I have no regrets.

I bought a pair of $5 skinny jeans in size 12 (Aussie which is about a 10 US) over the weekend as an item to grow into....maybe. well this morning I tried them on, just to see how close they were..and shock horror and happiness they fit, snug but wearable...yeha!!!!
This is probably the biggest victory to date. Pre surgery starting at a 26/28 my goal size was a 14. I never saw or wanted to be tiny, I like curves just in the right places not bulges like before...so I am happy to get here atleast on the bottom....my tops still are a 16/18 and my boobs may stop me ever getting to a 14 as they have not shrunk much at all.
Man I feel cute, curvy and sexy today...ye me

I had all my favorite foods before surgery but I also was trying to lose some before the pre-op diet. So while I did order, or eat what I wanted, I used portion control. Example..1 slice of pizza or half a steak instead of all. I skipped a lot of the extras like the potatoes and breads and just had my favorite "main dish". I was still down 5 lbs before the pre-op diet started and I didnt feel like I had missed out on anything.

I quit smoking December 26th. I got the prescription for Chantix and it helped a lot. I am now smoke free and was finally sleeved May 29th. Originally I thought I would just quit and then smoke again after surgery but I am really enjoying being smoke free now! I am proof that it can be done since I was a smoker for 30 years. I highly recommend quitnet.com for a good support forum. The chantix club has a great group of people. I still visit once a day! Good luck in your journey

I am 3 weeks out, lost 21lbs since surgery my waist size in pants is the same (well its a little less, but not enough to drop a pants size yet) but I notice the weight I am losing is in my face, shoulders, and my upper legs for some reason. I had to prove the leg part to myself today by trying on a pair of Curves workout pants that I bought at a garage sale for a dime last year, they are an XL and the day before surgery I could only get them up to mid thigh, today they were all the way up

Ive done the same thing with a jar of salsa. The chicken gets so moist and flavorful. Ive even shredded the chicken breasts and made tacos or burritos.Romaine lettuce worked as a sub for real taco shells. Or you could just make a taco salad.

Girl you need to say something to them. My guess is they dont even realize they are doing it. I would also set aside a lunch for yourself the next day before you even serve the food. Just take part of it and pack it in the fridge. That way they can fight over whats left and you arent feeling so frustrated. Make sure they know thats MOMMAS lunch and hands off

I am here to tell you that it can be done. I started the process for the sleeve in October 2011. I quit smoking December 26th. (over 5 months now) stopped drinking any alcohol or caffienated drinks six weeks ago and I was finally sleeved on 5/29. I found quitnet.com to be a very helpful site on my quitting smoking journey. I have learned a lot about myself in the process. I am looking forward to the next year to see my transformation. You can do this! When I first quit smoking i was not happy about it. I thought I would just go right back to it once I had my sleeve done. Not anymore. I have ZERO desire to smoke now. I want to be healthy 100 percent. Good luck in your journey!
