How Long After Surgery Before You Felt Good?

Recommended Posts

I am a month out and just feeling good enough to work a full day as a teacher. I had complications with my blood and that has made me really weak. I was feeling much better at 10 days out to do light shopping and errands.

7 to 9 days. I still tire in the middle of the day (one month out) but I could spend most of my day out at that point.

I was sleeved on 4-25. 4 days later went to super Walmart with my husband and shopped for an hour. I did good. I started back to work this week. Worked Wednesday for 4 hours, Thursday for 8 and today for 8. I am in more pain today than I have been in since the hospital. I had my 2 week check up with my surgeon & he said I look great. I have energy but I'm still so sore where they removed my stomach. I feel like it's cramping a lot today& I'm so uncomfortable to drive.

So we are all recovering so differently. I think I did too much when I shouldn't have& now I'm paying for it.

Any thoughts to why you think im so sore today whn I'm 2 weeks out?

It took me about 2 months (I am 3months post op) i did just get a stomach virus and well I felt really crappy. Worried about dehydrating and I was feeling weak again. Feel much better now. I think as time goes by the more "normal" you will feel. You have to let your body heal, remember its changing on a daily basis (even if you can't see or feel it) but that causes stress.

I'm six weeks out and realised last night that I felt absolutely normal for the first time in ..... six weeks. I have no headaches, discomfort, dizziness or nausea that was bugging me. I felt able to do normal activities within a week of surgery though.

It took me a full 6 weeks to feel normal-ish post-op. Prior to that I was miserable, trying to manage my diet progression, Protein, Water etc...I've seen the greatest change at 8 weeks though, because I dropped Protein shakes & started eating Protein Bars & the switch flipped! I feel awesome, back to my old self, but much better--and of course 58 lbs lighter! I'll be 11 weeks out in 3 days and life is gooood! I never knew what I was missing out on by being so unhealthy! I am so thankful for my sleeve!

I felt "better" at about a week out n went out however my mom was driving. Didn't really start to feel "good" until my drain was finally removed 10 days post op. It was crazy. I instantly felt 100% better once they removed that drain.

So none of you had pains in your stomach? I feel like my stomach is contracting& moving Around. The pain is something awful. When I laugh, cough,& sneeze is so painful. The stomach cramping didn't start happening until I started back to work Wednesday. That's the same day I started mushy foods as well.

I had my 2 wk follow up with surgeon & he said I looked great & could even start exercising.

I have energy & feel great other than my whole left side hurting terribly. Especially whn I drive.

Is it just my muscle that I have to re work. Or the food I'm eating?

Any help Would be greatly appreciated.

Katie

I have pain...and still do 2 week post op tomarrow. In fact today after walking I hurt so bad that I had to lay down for a couple hours.

I like you comment about contracting and moving because I told my husband it hurt so bad I swear it moves every time I move. Of course he laughs at me :)

When I went to my surgeon he told me the reason it hurts so bad is because they bang and bruise us up in there and all that is so tender. I still cringe every time i laugh or sneeze because I know it is going to hurt so bad.

Jill- Thanks so much for responding!! I thought I was just crazy!! My husband thinks I'm doing to much& need to relax more. I don't think I'm doing too much. I'm just so tired of havinig this cramping. I was sleeved 4-25 & just want to get better!! Just like u. Whn I'm moving around for awhile. I have to lay back & relax. I feel like I'm 90 years old. No prob Katie! We all have to stick together! Remember to take it easy. It is major surgery ;) That is what my husband tells me everyday. Now if you will excuse me I'm going to go move a heavy dresser then run a 5K. Ha!

My surgery was ten days ago and I'm still on the mend. I'm probably older than the average sleever and had a one-step band revision with lots of scar tissue removed, so I think my recovery will be a bit longer.

I see progress everyday and my activities are increasing but I'm not pushing it. The pain decreases every day and my strength is improving. I'd say weakness is my biggest obstacle at this point. he

I read the posts of the all the ladies who were able to get out and about right after surgery and still feel good and I thought......... ahhhh to be young again.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
