How Long After Surgery Before You Felt Good?

Recommended Posts

BetterthanIwasB4, I too had a terrible time in recovery. I was crying and a mess and kept saying I was having a heart attack. The nurses finally just gave me an oxygen mask and left me alone. Looking back, I think it was just the stress of anesthesia and the gas.

I was out shopping the next week for short stints. I had no complications though.

My longer term recovery was pretty slow in one way. My Doctor said that still being as exhausted as I was (like napping every day) at the three month mark was unusually long. I just couldn't stay awake past 8:30 even if I had a nap in the afternoon. It was brutal.

My bloodwork was great, and the weight was FALLING off but I was so tired.

It is different for everybody.

I felt pretty good within about 4-5 days - I was walking around the block and doing light housework, etc. Physically my recovery was awesome, but emotionally I was on a roller-coaster for about 6 weeks. I was miserable until I could eat an egg. :)

I'm 24 days out...and still have to take a 3-4 hour nap a day in addition to sleeping 9-10 hours a night. But then, I have had complications. Some days are better than others, but have been feeling a little less terrible since I moved from liquids to puree :D

I was claiming to be having a heart attack in recovery too! I'm embarrassed to think of it now. I also felt like I was going to puke and kept complaining about that in recovery too until they doubled my meds and I felt better.

On Day 5 I drove to town and went shopping. I got tired faster than I normally would, but other than that I was fine.

I felt well two days after surgery, and then made a trip to Walmart with my husband on day 4. I felt fine going out, but got tired pretty quickly.

Be careful those reading these posts not to take suggestions from here that your doctor does not recommend. For example, doing too much too soon can cause you problems. Some people may get by with driving the next day and walking for hours, but for the majority, it could cause a lot of complications. Be good to your body, you just put it through a very rough time.

Physically--- about 10 days after surgery. I woke up and felt like a whole new person.

Emotionally--- it took me a while. Probably by the middle of the 2nd month is when I started to feel better' date=' stopped regretting my sleeve and feeling like this was a good thing instead of a horrible mistake I had made.[/quote']

Has any one felt depdessed or anxious after th surgery.due tk th hormone change ?

I don't know what hormone change you mean unless you are referring to Ghrelin and that is not a hormone that has an effect on emotions. Tell me what you have heard so I can research it.

thanks,

Vicki

Yes, many women do start their period after surgery - it is MAJOR surgery and it throws your cycle out of whack. I had my period for almost 16 continuous days after surgery, despite still using my NuvaRing. Your results may vary.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
