So tired...Christmas is killing me! It's 2:30 and I have just finished wrapping the presents and have stashed them safely away from enquiring minds :) Friends arrive tomorrow and I'll have a full house until Christmas. I am not sure if I will have much of a chance to jump online before Christmas so I just want to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Merry Christmas and to thank you all for your amazing support and advice. I can't quite believe that I am here but am so grateful and thankful that I am.

A very Merry Christmas to you and your families - and here's to an amazing New Year for us all!!

Have a great Christmas and New year Lila. Everyone is a bit quiet on here as I guess we are all busy with Xmas events!

Wishing all my fellow sleevers an awesome Christmas and New Year! I am not sure how much I will be around as I have a holiday planned too.

Love keeping an eye on this forum. Getting excited about my date, just over three weeks away. Unfortunately I seem to be eating everything in sight at he moment. Vowed to go off chocolate until Christmas and have managed three days so just two days to go. Dony know what's wrong but just want to be eating all the time. scales are up about two kilos in as many weeks. Start my pre op diet in nine days so maybe I'm just reacting to that.

Wishing you all a great Christmas and every happiness for the year ahead.

Swift Kate, it is probably nerves and also this time of year is not conducive to healthy or smart eatting. Dont sweat it too much, food guilt isnt good, and in my case just makes me eat more. Way to go on avoiding chocolate!!! I wish I coulod be that good at the moment. Your date is coming up soon, just focus on the same rules for eatting now as you will need to post op which should also help...lean Protein first, then veggies..then carbs etc. You will do great, 9 days is nothing.

I will be heading out to my folks place for Christmas with my 3 beautiful nephews so likely wont be back on for a few days.

Whatever stage of the journey you are on, enjoy your Christmas, enjoy the people you get to spend it with...

Merry Christmas!!!!!

Wow I finally worked out how to show my ticker. Did it before but didn't add to my signature. Started off at today's weight. Didn't bother starting at pre-band which was 2 years ago. It all starts from now!!

Merry Christmas to all fellow Australian Sleevers regardless of what stage you are in your journey. 2012 has been a great year for most of us on this journey and 2013 will be even better. I wish you all a happy Christmas Day, especially spending time with loved ones. For once it won't be focused on food! I look forward to meeting Brisbane sleevers hopefully at some stage early in the New Year and hope 2013 brings you good health and happiness. Cheers Kelli

Wishing everyone a very Merry Christmas. Today used to be a day focused on food and just how quickly I could get myself into a food coma....but not today. Today is about family and loved ones. I'm at my sisters farm out west where there is a lot of rain, watching my girls play with their cousins in the rain instead of looking at the plate as I shovel as much food as I could into my mouth. I help with all the prep for a large family over 2 days and barely anything made me hungry or want to eat. It's a different feeling but I'm embracing it! Merry Christmas!!!!

Christmas Day has come and gone and we are on our way back to Brisbane from NQ. Haven't been near a set of scales for over a week so I will be interested to see if I have lost anything over the break. It was strange this year. Prepared all of the food, but had little urge to eat it. Had small amounts of things I really like rather than eating for the sake of it. The sleeve makes you more discerning when you know you can only fit in a small amount that's for sure. Have had a few rum balls, but again only one or two at a time instead of half a dozen! All NQ family commented on my weight loss, but I didn't tell them I have had the sleeve and none of them even asked how I had done it which was a bit odd. My mother-in-law knows in NQ but no-one else. Thought I would be more chuffed about showing off my weight loss, but in the end I realised that I have done it for me and no-one else's opinion really matters. I hope everyone is having a lovely holiday.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
