Attention ! Australian Sleevers

Recommended Posts

One_elle good question! I'm more frightened of that one and having to bypass my stomach all together scares the hell out of me, to be honest I'm not sure why i wont want an RNY? My surgeon doesnt do them, but in saying that he can always refer me to someone who does.

Hubby thinks im jumping the gun a bit and should wait to see what the surgeon says first.

Mimz I hope it all works out for you love a d you can be sleeved next year. New years res...to be more disciplined with study and exercise and stay away from chocolate! Lol.

I went to a Xmas party last night. Had to take a plate- do I did a cheese platter and a fruit and salami platter. BBQ was supplied, massive salads and other stuff was supplied. I picked a tiny amount from my own platter, then when BBQ was ready I just got stuff for my girls. I few people noticed I wasn't eating....everyone's plates where piled high with meat, potato salad, bread rolls- (no secret sleevers in this workplace!) I grabbed a chicken skewer and explained I had been picking all afternoon and evening and was stuffed. Then went and sat with the kids for a bit to take myself out of there view. I also got hit on by a tall, very dark and very sexy African man...I turned him down but I was secretly pleased that I got hit on......for the first time in years! Lol.

Good luck mimz, waiting is hard but hopefully the time will fly and you'll know what direction you will take before you know it.

I saw my GP yesterday and told her that I was getting the sleeve in January as I haven't seen her for a while. She said that she thought it was a good decision as she knows I have struggled with the band. Made me feel so much better as I really value her opinion.

Hi Mimz, I am with your husband. Best to wait and see what your surgeon says. There must have been lots of people get the sleeve with the same symptoms as you but not know it at the time,as it doesn't seem to be standard practice for docs to do these tests in advance of doing the sleeve. You may find that most docs refuse to do bypasses now in Australia unless for the super obese. My doctor certainly doesn't to do it for quite a few serious reasons. Hopefully your news will be good and we cross fingers for you that you will be able to go ahead with the sleeve.

It's great validation when your GP is supportive of your decision. Mine was too when I told her after the event. She highly recommends ot to her overweight patients.

Had a great time last night. Good ego boost which was a nice change. My best friend who does not support what I have done (pure jealously) had a Christmas party. I wore my new size 12 NYDJ jeans for the first time and had compliments from every person there except her. I felt fabulous and enjoyed the positive attention. I knew I looked the best I have been in 20 years and she hated it!! I've never discussed my surgery with her after initially telling her I was having it and now just let the results to date speak for themselves.

Nice! I bet yiu felt amazing and as for the food, its funny that people notice how much others DONT eat! If you had a plate piled just as high I bet they wouldnt notice that.

Hi Kate, I had a similar experience, my GP wrote the referral to the Surgeon, but I wasn't sure I had his support until after I had booked my 'Band removal' surgery. he doesn't have many patients who have had WLS, however, he knows that my weight is an issue and like you, I value his support. Roll on Thursday, when I say goodbye to my Band.

Kelli, that's great about last night. Can't believe your B/F has still an attitude about this. You would at least expect a positive acknowledgement even if it is tough for her to do if she values your friendship - the jealousy must be eating at her terribly to try and give not say anything..fantastic that others around you noticed and those size 12 jeans - awesome :)

I went to a Xmas party last night and walked into crossroads yesterday and felt so good to buy a summery dress (size 18) and above knee length..also got heaps of compliments and hubby admitted he was very jealous of how great I looked and going out without him....

Sorry haven't been on for a while - I became a 39 year old grandmother this week so hence busy with her!!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
