Good luck Scotty. Also Lila am so pleased things are working out for you. I am so addicted to reading everyone's posts each day but don't really have much to contribute as yet. Surgeons visit is still 7 weeks away where I can finally find out about my revision from band to sleeve. Have minimal fill in and have put on 2 kgs in 2 weeks so am feeling quite frustrated. Have upped my walking to 5 days a week but while I seem to think I'm eating healthy, obviously I have some work to do.

Hey everyone. Scott, I hope you're recovering well. I know the hospital doesn't let you have phones, so I guess we'll have to wait until Friday when you get home to find out how it all went.

I chopped off all my hair yesterday and dyed it BRIGHT red!!! I'm like a traffic cone. New me, new do. My size 12 work pants are absolutely too big now and I really need some new ones. Don't think I'll get into 8s, but I'm looking forward to buying more 10s.

Hi all, thanks for the support. It's been pretty smooth sailing except for the damned hiccups. Been sleeping lots, surprisingly not hungry. Can't wait to be out of here. Check in tomoz

Great to here it all went well for you Scotty. We swallow a lot of air even when we are just talking so that may be why you have the hiccups. I had a similar sensation but it does pass after a few days.

Oh those hiccups are a nightmare! I couldn't stop vomiting first 24 hours then the hiccups had me holding a pillow tight against my stomach because they hurt!

You will get used to the non hunger, I'm in week 3 and its weird looking at how much other people eat now! Lol

I've been walking last few days, got some new Adidas shoes :-) feels good

Hope everyone is well!

Scotty: Great to hear you are doing so well Scotty!!! I hate the hiccups on any other normal day so feel for you :)

Can't wait to pick your brain about Post op while its still fresh in you mind.

Lila: I had a bit of a giggle at your nutri grain wobble, I'm glad the dietician was ok with it, they do get pretty soggy anyway. I'm so glad you are doing well now, being at home must be a dream!

Bella: You go girl! Give those shoes a work out...........mine have cobwebs all over them

My Psychology appointment is this Monday........when did that creep up?? I then am back to the surgeon on the 23rd November to "discuss" things, maybe a date? LOL.

Quick question...........did anyone have any nausea after surgery? How long did it last?

That's great Scotty that your home and your op was complication free. I will say I did keep you in my thoughts as what Lila went through and the self pay, I didn't want to hear of another unfortunate situation where no insurance to cover it. Bet your do glad you continued on with your plan to get it done b4 your health insurance kicked in as you will be way ahead and no more waiting, as you were so determined to do this life changing op weren't you. It is the absolute best decision I have done and am so privileged to be among this group with the same goal to achieve. One thing though - last week when washing my hair, started to see hair falling out :( OMG - so I've been upping the Protein this week.

Have a great weekend all :)

Great to hear you are going so well Scotty.

Yes Shell - I am losing a bit of hair too and it is so dry. I am going to try the caffeine Shampoo and change my Vitamins back to the silica herbs of gold - I don't think the hair skin and nails Suisse is as good.

Minz - I did experience nausea straight after my op but is was due to my reaction to the morphine more than the actual procedure. I stopped the morphine pump and was fine after that - pain was actually minimal and I think I was just pressing the pump more than I needed to as I was scared of the pain!

Hi Mimz,

I hesitated to respond since my situation is so different but I still struggle with nausea. I actually have to tablets still. But as I said, I am probably not the person to ask.

Cheers, Liss

Hi guy's

So my recovery continues to be slow :( I had a bad day yesterday and was dry reaching for about 30 minutes. Yuck. And I've been coughing and sneezing a lot the last few days. And then I had some loose mince last night and was in pain for about three hours afterwards. I am freaking out. Today, I still have pain but think that it is muscle rather than a leak. It has totally freaked me out though...I haven't really eaten anything today and when I do, it hurts. I think that it's anxiety that's doing it but damn, this journey is more of a head game than I thought.

On the upside (sorry to be a downer today) I have lost 33 kg now. I haven't been this light for over 5 years. So the surgery worked at least :)

Hope everyone else is going better!

Cheers, Liss

I had very bad nausea for the first 4 months after my surgery. I still have to take nexium every second day or so but that is for heartburn caused by eating spicy food. I also became lactose intolerant so now I have Zymil. My weight loss has slowed right down like my surgeon said it would but I am starting reformer pilates next week so hope to lose again soon. Recovery from this surgery for me was slow but I have no regrets.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
